Do we think there are going to be any layoffs at CBS???

@ck AI will more than likely takeover a lot of the writing.
@a6 CBS News lost all credibility because of D-MBA*** Paramount! Paramount Leaders have no clue what they are doing and I have to say, I have not met such a huge bunch of liars in my life - All in the same place!
@ab linear is dying because they are letting it die.
You can get 150 OTA channels in Los Angeles for a one-time investment of 20 bucks.
Over the years i have spent over 54,000 dollars on cable and now subscriptions.
@ac true dat
@aa 3rd place is still big
@a2 CBS is a cash cow. That is why the the company split 10 years ago. Movies need large investments and take time to show profit or loss. TV is efficient and shows can be cancelled to cut losses.
TV is not dead. Broadcast is suffering but that is because nobody is trying to keep it alive. NOBODY.
How about PROMOTING broadcast TV? Many (most?) have never even seen a broadcast and of those that have, most haven't seen digital broadcast. I got cable in 1980 and have probably paid over 54,000 to cable companies.
Hey young-uns, did you know for a one-time $20 purchase you can view over 150 broadcast channels in Los Angeles with no monthly payments?
@d6 they didn't say CBS News.
@cq No on is talking about CBS News you je-k.
The irony of arguing over which one is better when they’re both in decline….
Wow, it’s testy in here this morning.
@a2 you have no idea what you are talking about. Cable networks still make 50%+ of the profits of this company. Yes, it's a declining business but cable still more profitable than CBS b/c of all the affiliate revenue. CBS News losing $$$ in totality.
@c9 not sure why you’re getting downvoted. CBS News is on a horrific decline. The amount of money wasted and not generated is inexcusable.
They're not gonna need pesky, expensive researchers and journalists when all the news reports are written by the state.
There CBS and then there's CBS News - big difference. CBS News is last place on each national news platform and 60 Minutes viewership is falling of a cliff -
@a2 get your head out of your a**. Pluto’s been raking in billions for a few years.
@bx Agree, Viacom also ruined MTV and BET.
Yes, I feel sorry for those getting laid off and I hope those laid off can find new jobs quickly. If you think it's bad now wait until SD purchases WB. Atlanta here we come.
The worst thing that ever happened was the merger of CBS and Viacom. Nothing good has come of this combination for the CBS side. Layoffs for CBS and reporting to people that are clueless and more interested in building fiefdoms. Les Moonves was right, and CBS would have been better off as a standalone company. CBS Management was the A team and the Viacom management the B team if you are lucky. If you don't believe me, think about the fact the Paramount could have had the marvel franchise but let Disney walk away with it. I could go on and on, but you get the point.
If you listened to former CFO or DE they talked about how much revenue and content that CBS provides the company.
So here we are, let's hope DE can turn things around. I am rooting for him and the Team. Whatever it takes.
@br definitely not a scared cow
Just ask any Showtime employee. Oh yeah they are all gone. The group had the highest profit margin before the mergers.
CBS isn’t some scared cow by making money. But good luck to everyone thinking that way.
@bm If you don't know who BW is, then you don't work at CBS news or even read the news.
@a4 whats pre BW?
What kind of question is this? We are all in the same boat
lol CBS laid off 20 people in June. What makes you think we’re immune from the layoffs?? They literally don’t care
@ak I don't think people are necessarily disrespecting CBS, but it is a little naive to believe you are completely immune to layoffs. Even profitable divisions could potentially have to make cuts.
Everyone in here disrespecting CBS. We are the best part of this company. We are the most watched channel and we make up basically all of streaming on Paramount+.
@ab No offense but we literally prop up the entire company.
Wow, some CBS folks sound mighty confident. I don’t think DE cares much about linear but even if he does, I would be shocked if CBS wasn’t impacted significantly
CBS folks, the news makes no money. There will totally be layoffs there. The top ratings are for series. News is 3rd place. Even prime time is only watched by geriatrics which are not a high ad demo so I can’t say non-news is safe either. If you’ve seen Colbert get fired I don’t know how you can totally feel safe
@a5 I’m honestly shocked more haven’t left voluntarily. CBS News has lost all credibility.
@a3 CBS is the No. 1 ranked channel for 17 years in a row. People are watching and money is still flowing from this channel. They cannot and would not axe any of us.
i'm hearing no on sports
some on news pre BW
and some light on CBS E
I actually don’t think layoffs will hit CBS until later rounds. CBS is the only sector of Paramount that is bringing in money. They cannot afford to cut anyone right now.
If it’s a part of Paramount it will be affected by layoffs.
