Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The Center

Designed to support the assets and be a hub for SME’s, it has been a great success for Chevron over the years. But facing an existential threat, after years of investing in research and technologies which make zero impact on the day to day happenings in the assets, they’re staging a coup from within. Why else are CTC people now heading up all the major organisations? They’re putting their minions in all these ‘GM’ positions so they’re protected. Many of them have never worked a day in the fields. The fu----s are destroying this company, ki-ling morale and making new problems that integrated teams solved easily. Everyone, literally everyone knows this is gonna fail but no one can now speak up to the management above their heads or else they’ll be gone.

@a5+1: "Many petro-techs in the assets have worked 9:00-3:00 their entire careers and have not read a technical article since graduate school, making minimal efforts to learn anything new." Hmmm. Those are the same petrotechs who have been producing oil for Chevron their entire careers. CTC folk? "...other new ideas that have high potential..." That's the same excuse CTC management have been feeding SR for decades now.

I am sorry to hear you were laid off. Your phrase resonates with me.
"By this time, those known to "speak up" have been laid off, me being one of them."
I too, an one who freely speaks his mind, and I was told before the AEOI that my job position was closed and encouraged me not to take the early AEOI in phase I because they needed me. Now Our team has been restaffed and I have contributed significantly to getting the new employees in Houston up to speed. On Wednesday, I was given a written letter of discussion for "speaking up" and disrespecting my managers authority. I was blindsided and now my manager is pursuing my termination with HR.
This place has some sociopaths in lower management positions.

My view is this is a cold calculated tactic to shaft me from my severance package. I have been with the company over 20 years and I have a kid just started his second year of college.
I wish I had the opportunity to EOI in June, get my severance package and move on to another company in the future. Amazing to me!

By this time, those known to "speak up" have been laid off, me being one of them. I firmly believe this is all by design and BR is orchestrating this debauchery to facilitate a capital acquisition. There is no other reason for what is occurring and BR is full speed ahead on their tactics, without any push back from our political class. America collectively better wake up.

Two sides to every coin. Many petro-techs in the assets have worked 9:00-3:00 their entire careers and have not read a technical article since graduate school, making minimal efforts to learn anything new. Sure, they can do the same old thing well by repetition, but they need to bring in outside consultants every time there is a problem. While I agree that some of the new technology being developed by the center lacks obvious application (and some is even obvious wasted effort), other new ideas that have high potential for immediate impact need to be repackaged at the baby food level for deployment. The one thing that is clear is that most of today's cash cows will be gone in a decade. We need to accelerate our expansion into new areas and technology.
