Downtown Houston Office Cuts

Does anyone have credible info on what the number of total headcount reductions is going to be for the Houston downtown office (counting AEOI + Round 1 + Round 2)?

@fq Chevron has not sent the numbers for Houston to the Texas workforce commission. What part of that are YOU not understanding? The WARN email notices went out to employees the day the jobs app opened in May. Last day on payroll for a lot of folks will be July 17th. Jesus fu--ing christ! I don't know how many ways we have to say it for it to get through to your thick scull. So whatever you think the law is, Chevron has clearly not sent the numbers to thr state despite specifically telling employees in wave 1 that they have been placed on the warn notice.

This is irritating AF reading all the d-mb BS posted here about WARN. It's not optional to file and it's a federal requirement not just with TWC/TX. Yes the date requirement is correct more less but it is also dependent on total workforce size and percentage of job reductions.

The penalties for failure to properly WARN (Federal, not including each State) are not cheap and based on each individual missed., and this would be publicly reported and definitely picked up by the media. The bad PR plus the financial penalities would more than offset and "goodwill" supposedly gained by essentially lying for a few months.

WARN triggers are somewhat tricky to manage as they involve rolling 30 day averages along workforce reduction #s and sometimes %s based on the ENTIRE workforce at a physical location (not just your BU or Function or team or Wave). They already will have to account for things like Transition jobs impacting term dates... which are still getting decided this week during selections.

Once we hit a trigger the Houston WARN notices will go out.

I wonder if the penalty for non-compliance with timely submission to TWC is so small it became a cost of doing biz thing

No one has to do anything with the number, it will be on the Financial news if the WARN notice is filed. Chevron ELT does not want to defend the firing of USA workers with the replacement of workers in a lower cost country. The energy industry already has a horrible reputation in this country and new college graduates don't want to work at Chevron. The ELT does not want more free negative publicity. When MW talked about the layoff on the CNBC, he was very careful to not explain the restaffing in other countries. It was interesting to watch the interview.

WARN is typically filed 60 days before the last date of employment and the last date on payroll has already been shared with the employees as July 17th. So theoretically if they were planning to file a WARN notice they should have filed the notice on May 17th or so. I don't believe they are planning to file the public notice for Houston because the number is so large and they don't want the information to be publicly known. The PGPA on this layoff is N@zi like, Joseph Goebbels style propaganda.

There is a net gain positions in Houston; since more than 50% of the Midland Jobs are moving to Houston.

Don't let this fool you - there are still layoffs in Houston. But legally, WARN isn't needed.

I notice people write comments stating the people in the 1H round were all notified with a WARN, but many people want to know the total number of people that will be laid off in Houston.

OP, I believe the number must be fairly large e.g. >1000 in the number of people that are not getting positions in round 1 in Houston because Chevron submitted public WARN notices for Midland (200) so they are not hiding the layoffs. They are just carefully releasing information that is to there advantage. Laying off >1000 in Houston will get unfavorable news on the local television and other media outlets.
