Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

My takeaways from Dan’s monologue… you don’t have to be in NJ to get promoted and more

Being one minute late to a meeting is “disrespectful,” apparently. But him slurping coffee into the mic like he’s doing a Folgers ASMR? That’s “leadership excellence,” I guess.

He swears email is a letter because, his words, not mine - he’s “old.” And he responds to every single one of those letters with pride… but Slack? Oh no. That’s where he draws the line. Technology has gone too far.

And when the layoffs, sorry, the “carnage” are finally done, he says those of us who remain will be… delighted. Yes, delighted. Because nothing screams delight like survivor’s guilt and three people doing the work of twelve.

If you missed the all-hands, don’t waste your time watching the replay.

He said ALL of this in 33 minutes… a meeting that absolutely could’ve been an email.

The hub requirement for promotions is just a way to get people to feel comfortable. Let's be honest, he wants you to leave the company on HIS terms, not YOURS. The more headcount he can keep until he needs to take action the better it is for him. For the next round, more heads in the opportunity pool to cut makes him look like he's REALLY trying to save things, coz, ya know, he wouldn't do things if it wasn't necessary.

@d0 I missed that, can you give more detail? It has now changed to make so everyone outside of NJ can be promoted?

"I sense your passion, but I think some of the points are slightly flawed. The outcome of MOST layoff programs is to ensure the business has the right number of headcount, in the right places, pointed at the right things. It’s often not as simple as cutting lowest performers - sometimes there is duplication, or high performers are working on things that have been descoped and/or deprioritised. Hence why sometimes high performers leave in redundancy situations. It’s not about the individual, it’s the role.
These programs are never easy, and rarely simple; and there are always things that can be done better. But trust me, there is always more thought and planning that goes into them than many think."

@d0 he said that rule was gone. The right people should be promoted regardless of location.

Yes Dan basically confirmed no promotions outside hubs was indeed a policy despite leadership constantly stating in town halls that this was not the case. Hmmmm.

My team's morale is dead. Our 'leadership' is so baked with unaccountability and DEI that it will never realize that it is the problem. We'll continue to focus on the wrong things and RIF good people. We have id--ts in charge that bring zero value and only slow things down.

Unbelievable. We have no value prop. Customer service su-ks the network su-ks sending customers to a scam a-s indirect location su-ks are these people psychopaths? This place is a corporate parody TV show.

I still can’t get over the coffee slurping. That was just gross and extremely rude. I mean, after what we’ve been through, he can’t even provide a modicum of respect to us? And he obviously didn’t put any effort into preparing his remarks. He was just rambling incoherently. He was trying to crack jokes and making light of the layoffs saying that other companies did it worse and Verizon was respectful …. Ummm weeks of radio silence from leadership while all of us were freaking out wondering whether we had jobs? I don’t think the company handled it well at all.
