Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

I have an offer, is it as bad as this board suggests?

I have an offer for a leader role in the technology space. Its interesting work based out of the Dallas area. Is TIAA as bad as this board suggests? Everyone I have interviewed with has been fantastic with a long tenure. Thoughts?

It being 7 days since OP posted this I am curious to know if they accepted or not as generally HR only allows a few days post offer in all the roles I had from day 1 some 20 years ago until my last position change here.

@17e+1jtdp88dk...so the rules are to only comment when you have negative comments and make sure you only comment during working hours...when you should be work....hilarious @17e+1jtdp88dk

If all is well and you got three promotions in 5 years(?!), why are you here commenting in this forum … on a weekend?

I have been here 5 years and gotten 3 promotions. No company is perfect, but the opportunities to advance are here. Or, you can bi--h and moan and blame everyone else for why you are stuck in the same role.

Accenture has ruined the flow of tech projects.

That’s all I have to contribute

Technology projects are awful at TIAA now that Accenture is here. We have had to halt work twice in the last 3 weeks. I have never seen this before. It’s bizarro land at TIAA

My experience was the company misrepresented a lot of material issues during the interview process. Also, they don’t think twice about making major changes to job roles and requirements, so the job you take with them may become a job you wouldn’t have considered had you known during the interview process. If you can find a job somewhere else, steer clear. That’s my honest opinion.

OP, are you located in the DFW area or would you need to relocate? If the latter, TIAA has a history of relocating people only to end up letting them go after the relocation.

As many posters have said, TIAA has serious problems. If you absolutely need a job take it. If you have other options, weigh them seriously versus TIAA’s offer.

Also, realize that your 401k match and retirement contributions vest in 3 years so if you do decide to join this place you’re locked in for 3 years. Additionally, your retirement contributions (and LTPP) stay with TIAA essentially forever. You don’t get to roll that into an IRA if you leave after you vest.

No, it’s not as bad as this board makes it sound. It’s worse! Run…

Agree with the other posters. Also, they just changed the performance scale. For your first year you are likely to receive only 95% max on the bonus/variable comp percentage they offered you. Also, since you’re a leader you should ask about the long term performance plan or LTPP. TIAA withholds a significant amount of your annual bonus but doesn’t tell you this during the recruitment process.

If you have other offers, do not accept the offer from TIAA. I am leaving after 10 years. No raises, too many reorgs over the years stopped any real progress, overworked due to not staffing at the appropriate level, and underpaid. TIAA is just a career pitstop until a better job comes along.

Depends. Being a former Frisco associate…

If you don’t have a job and don’t have other job interviews/offers, maybe take it, but treat it like a short term contract and keep an eye out elsewhere. If you already have a job or receive other offers… steer clear.

@a5+1jtdp88dk Is 100% spot on.

Also DO NOT base an interview on the culture. Interviewees supposed to have a poker face, put have been putting on a “happy face”for the last few years regardless how great or not a candidate is. Especially since the push is to fill as many roles in Frisco as possible, as soon as possible.

Years ago other companies the grass wasn’t greener and people returned here. It was a running joke to go from here to other firms and return within 3 years for the benefits.

Long tenured person here. Like the first response, I could have seen myself retiring from here. Then within last 3-4 years things changed and was even worse the last 10 months so I’ll be looking for work sooner than I wanted to. At least since you’re in Frisco you should have 20-30 years until “the next big city” (if the company lasts that long).

For many, it’s worse.

For some, it’s not as bad.

Depends on your department, role, leadership, future plans, and individual tolerances.

5 years ago I could’ve seen myself working here until retirement. Now, I’m leaving for many reasons.

The company culture varies from location to location, department to department. The message from the top is that everything is great. The message from the bottom is that it’s a sh-t show. This is a sign that leadership is blind and deaf to what happens beneath them. Personally, I’d say be very cautious.
