Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Notified I could expect a letter by the EOY 2025 instructing me to move to a hub location.

I will not move to a city 550 miles away. I have 33 years with the company and I am tired, beyond tired, exhausted by the clownish behavior of AT&T.

Honestly, it's the entire biz org. Nothing but frustration, anger, bitterness, bad strategy, and daily f-ups. When you're that miserable, you tend to spread it to others.

It’s the whole damn company. Clowns top-down.

“ I had a cousin who hired on fresh out of HS.”

I know someone who also started out of HS & hit 40 years (this year).

*33 years? *

And he might have just recently turned 51 or so. Not terribly uncommon, especially here in the South. I had a cousin who hired on fresh out of HS. So he had 30 years in before he was 50; didn't mean he was ready or able to retire.

33 years? Why are you still here? With all this BS it is amazing that anyone with that many years is putting up with it and are still here. FFS, retire and enjoy your life outside this he-l hole.

"Made it clear he would retire on or before the date in the letter."

That's the plan; they don't have to pay severance if he retires as opposed to declining to follow the job. What does retiring get the employee that he wouldn't get declining to move?

A coworker received this warning. Also retirement eligible with about 38 years. Made it clear he would retire on or before the date in the letter. Seems leadership know of this letter, but not when it will be sent out. I think this is just BS to identify specific people for surplus.

"I am tired, beyond tired, exhausted by the clownish behavior of AT&T"

I retired in December. I was fortunate to have a new career waiting. This quote is almost verbatim what I stated was my reason for leaving AT&T. New employer asked if I wanted to clean up that statement. I declined, saying it was the truth.

"Our Org moved under JVB and there is chatter about her being a cutter for anyone not in a hub location."

JVB was a huge proponent of 5xRTO prior to Covid, even when the rest of the company was moving towards 3xRTO. She is a wench to work for.

“Older white guy here...You mean like the older white guys who blame their lack of career progression and opportunity on DEI? Yup, that's entitlement!”

If you think for one moment that DEI hasn’t (unjustly) cost jobs for better qualified White men then you are either a co-agitator or a naïve sheep!

"It’s been two years."

Not necessarily. Some groups were told they would not be effected, and other groups in hub cities have now been told their hub assignment will be changing.

Previous poster was right. Even after you give your answer, you will likely have a couple months still on payroll. However, I will say, our group was told in 2023 that we would get a letter by end of 2025. Well, we all thought that meant the letter would be Q4 of 2025. Nah, they meant "at any time, but before the end of 2025." We got letters last fall; anyone who opted to move had various report dates no later than June 25. Those who did not opt to move were on payroll for about 4 months and then given their 2 week notice.

You don't say how close you are to 65, but there are scenarios that could work for you. Or like you say, you have no stomach/patience for it, and just want to be done.

They were just notified now you dummy. Not everyone will receive the job offer, you stupid kcuf. Spell that last word backwards.

This forum is for, among other things, grand announcements. There is no need for what you've written.

Go fu-k yourself. No loyalty left in the American employer.

Yep. You are definitely a Democrat. Leave the country immediately, while you can.

So you get notified at the end of this year. Then you get what, 6-12 months to move? Where are you going to sit? Lots of folks already being assigned to your future "home" and you think you'll have a desk in 18-24 months? I made the same call, OP. I've reached the end of my patience with this company. Good luck.
