Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why cling to a company that doesn’t want you?

I’m genuinely curious. Why are you clinging to a company that no longer wants you?

I was an IC that took initiative and did impactful work that improved the performance of my entire team many times but my manager’s actions showed that they didn’t appreciate me or value me so I volunteered to be laid off and I was.

Actions speak louder than words and I think many of them look down on their underlings. So why are you clinging to these arrogant a**holes?

FREE MONEY! I collect a paycheck twice a month while working from home watching TV or running errands.

Because there's a paycheck? And I'm two years from retirement? And look out for #1. Any more questions?

for a paycheck to fund my life. thats it, i expect nothing else from them. getting laid off early in my career taught me that lesson. i wok hard for my own conscience and to gain a reputation that can help me later. also it buys me a little ... grace,leeway, etc day to day if the bossman knows I am a high performer. My rare complaints or thoughts get a little more attention than a low performer would get. I truly do not expect anything else

@ae Being treated with disrespect and contempt or being discriminated against isn’t the kind of discomfort that leads to growth.

@aq I hate to contradict the Godfather but if it was about what’s best for the business they would’ve placed the more experienced and qualified people in decision making positions. The main reason that Verizon’s cellular network is no longer number one is that they carefully and methodically shot themselves in the foot by promoting inexperienced and unqualified people while ignoring the more experienced people. It’s somewhat similar to what happened at Boeing.

@ak it’s not personal, it’s strictly business.

@ae I’m the OP and I’ve raised my hand and solved many hard network problems including some that were thought to be impossible but as I stated in my original post that wasn’t valued or appreciated. The favoritism and ageism were off the scale. So lean in into that discomfort as much as you like.

I’ll see your Ginni Rometty quote and raise you with one from Warren Buffett: “You can’t make a good deal with a bad person.”

All my bosses treated their direct reports unfairly and unethically except for their favorites and their VLDP/NLDP “geniuses” who were actually woefully unqualified.

There is no hope, but the paycheck and benefits speak volumes.

Those with years are hanging on for that plus the severance. If they ever change that, more people will jump ship faster.

Well... vz falls in the category that doing less means more problem pointing and more promotions.

Glad OP moved on and found another job.
