I was informed my position was eliminated today.
I was told by my supervisor that I don't have to do any work (including transitioning any work to other teams) or charge any time for previously scheduled PTO.
Is that correct?

My manager also told me that. What a rough day, I was expecting anything like this. Didn’t expect to be axed didn’t expect to be given this I am just in shock
@ae This is what happened to me. I had access to to systems with confidential information. It was completely stripped and I was told I am getting paid to do nothing besides search for a new position. I will take it. Good luck to everyone impacted!
My supervisor tried to convince me that it is a "bad time" to look for a new job. Then it was back to business again, like I didn't just get my livelihood taken away. So HR must not have given them the memo.
It probably differs from org to org. The folks impacted under my manager were already removed from most system access for daily functions and are given the next 30 days to prepare their resumes, etc. for the outside world. They will not be doing any further functional work. It’s the one plus I can say in this mess that Verizon has done to help besides the $20 million they are allocating per Dans email. It’s gonna be rough for me as I made it through, but I appreciate Verizon giving them this time. I’ll take the sh-t for that. Good luck everyone.
Why start working now?
Not us poor customer service schlups. We're expected to show up tomorrow with our bright happy faces on like any other day.
Not supposed to do any work? Are you VZI? LOL
My manager told me the same thing. I was allowed to take the remaining of the day off today if I wanted and was told I can take tomorrow and next week off without using my time
@a4 it's not standard. Depends on your boss, your role and whether or not you need to document and/or transition work. Consider yourself lucky if you can devote 100% of your remaining time on payroll looking for a new job.
I dont have to be told not to do any work
Dude just stay quiet or you'll get less vacation days paid for. Just do what you're told since it benefits you and walk away. Don't mess it up for the rest of us...
I'm selling back all my vacation time, I even changed some from vacation to personal since we lost the personal days
I was a manager during a previous RIF and this consistent with what we were instructed by HR to tell those who were impacted.
@OP that’s what I was told
@a2 LOL what? Just trying to see if this is standard across all teams or if some are transitioning work. Sorry to have bothered you.
@a1 Yeah I know my team had a lot of PTO scheduled over the next few weeks. I can't imagine anything is going to get done.
@OP Did you ever listen to your supervisor
It wouldn’t surprise me. Half of my team was laid off including my manager. They’ve yet to tell those of us who are “safe” what the new org structure is, and several folks have scheduled vacations anyway to try to lower their saved vacation before the bank is lowered in January. Not sure how any work is going to get done for the rest of the year and there’s no indication they care. None of this seems particularly well planned.
