Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

just joined Verizon, now what ?

I'm a develop joining right before the new CEO.
I assume i will be the first one if layoff happens in my team.
All my long term plan has to be reconsidered at this point.
Relocation, housing etc.

Real advises please guys.
How long this thing would last ?
Should i start looking for new job?
Anyone i can talk to make myself feel better ?

They hired you and your friends recently to train and replace tenured people like me (15 years) because of the cost.

They will lay off experienced higher paid people first. New people typically stay.

@ar, what of the RIFs?

Actually it'd be the opposite. I've been with the company 20+ years and still am. The VSP (Voluntary Separation Packages) are designed to remove the salaries/ wages of those of us with tenure, from the equation

I'm in a similar boat. But, I would suggest to wait and see what happens. Keep checking on here and check with your manager (if they are trustworthy).
In other companies, I have been given a "heads up" that I could be affected by downsizing.

But keep your resume up to date and "explore" which companies are hiring. If you do get layed off , a lot of companies don't hire until budgets are approved. So it could be like feb/march timeframes until some companies hire.

Good thing i didn't directly jump into a mortgage.
was truly thinking about relocation just one week earlier but now this happens.
Guess i will have to keep commuting for a while.

I’m nervous too. Also pretty new to the company and I spent a lot of effort and my own money to relocate so I could work at Verizon. Terrible timing! I think the layoffs will be massive and no one is safe. :/
