Cisco has approx 85,000 employees

lets look at this logically.
5% = 4,250 (not enough to move the needle. bad publicity. zero upside)
10% = 8,500 (marginal cost savings)
15% = 12.750 (enough to goose the stock and give big payouts to ELT)
20% = 19,000 (too much. would adversely affect stock price)

AI is proving to be a short term burst and a long term loser. They are cannibalizing their core business (networking and security) by going all in on AI.
Cisco's partners are getting a rug pull next week which will make even more of them abandon Cisco for more beneficial relationships.
Why buy a bloated "nvidia-powered" Cisco AI stack when you can get it low cost straight from Nvidia (or DIY, or from 100 others, or just use Azure, Google or AWS, or...)

Webex, for the uninitiated, is just Zoom that is expensive and hard to get working.
and you likely already have MS Teams for free.
Cisco Firewall still su-ks. bad. real bad. laughing stock bad.

lots of fat to cut. i'd bet on 15-18% cut (12-15,000 employees)

@ah the announcement date is completely irrelevant. it will happen on the earnings call or the day after. OP was probably just approximating mid-month

10,000 confirmed

AI bubble is popping.
Meta dropped 8% after hours
Microsoft dropped 5%

Nvidia is a 5 Trillion company
they make the shovels for the AI goldrush and the circular economy between Nvidia, Oracle, OpenAI is an artificial bubble inflater. There is no justifiable explanation for the valuation. subscriptions? nope. AI Infrastructure spending? nope

if it smells like a bubble it probably is.

as an example, openAI is now resorting to peddling po-n and is about to lose a huge copyright case. they are private which hides a lot of financial toxicity
