The day before I left Target, leaders were discussing if they should “update” the slides for her (the company needs a real supply chain officer that understands basic supply chain concepts)
Nice should not be the primary qualification. Just like her, Rob has also only worked at Walmart, but he is the real deal.

I disagree that subject matter expertise (in supply chain, inventory management, merchandising, marketing, etc.) is the most critical thing a leader needs—aren’t attributes like common sense, ability to get things done, leadership, and communication skills more important?
If you ask me, I think the problem is that we have too many people who have risen to their level primarily because they know the Target system. If you were to pluck the people at Target who have worked only for Target and place them in another company, I think most of them would drown quickly.
@a4 the hiring for L7 supply chain in the past few years has been laughable. Most have no background in supply chain and cannot even manage simple inventory management tasks or understand concepts of how the network works. Leadership looked over seasoned talent who have mostly left the company by now and it shows in our stores. No wonder everything is out of stock all the time. Apparently analysts who write orders keep quitting too.

Yeah, it's astounding that there are so many leaders that need to be taught basic concepts. A big reason why I left. I should not be training L7s on basic concepts.
