Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

How do severance payments work?

Legacy ESI employee here. I know years ago when someone was RIF’d, their severance was paid biweekly and was contingent on them still being unemployed. In other words, if they got another job before their severance “time” ran out, the payments stopped. It was based off their weekly unemployed certification with the state. Is it the same under Cigna? Or would payments continue even if the termed employee found another job?

Cigna is bi-weekly severance payments and it depends on your state for filing for unemployment. Many states won't let you collect severance and unemployment.

It goes without saying, make sure to read your contract thoroughly. Getting through to someone in HR who knows what’s going on and ask appropriate questions about the contract is a nightmare.
If you opted in for additional legal support through your Cigna supplemental benefits, recommend using it (or an external attorney) to look over your contract.
Like others have said -
Biweekly.
No internal job or forfeit severance.
some states you qualify for unemployment + severance.

Best of luck!

Payments continue only if hired somewhere else. If you are rehired internally, payments stop.
