@bv And yet, they make you sign on the dotted line before giving you a single penny. And it's not just O. Everyone does that.
@am what exactly would you sue over? You job is at will. You can leave whenever you want and they can let you go when they want. They are meeting their legal requirements by paying severance. If you turn down the severance that is your choice but you will just end up walking away empty handed when it is all over. If somehow you did win in court the award would likely not be greater than the severance and now your lawyer will get 30-40% of your settlement. Brilliant move.

Links, or you're BSing.
Take the weeks severance and don't sue. This is the basic idea.
For US, the best offer you will get is 4 weeks for the 1st year and 1 week for every year after, capped at maximum of 26 weeks. Daddy Larry is not running a charity here. Only in places like Germany where there's strong worker protection laws, you might see that level of severance.
@a3 edit : agreeing not to sue
In the USA, you are not owed a severance. Companies offer one in exchange for you not agreeing to sue.
In the past, Oracle has offered 4 weeks for the 1st year and 1 week for every year after, capped at maximum of 26 weeks. Also included has been COBRA for 1 month. Any unused PTO is paid out.
They are not obligated to stick to this.
Severance is a dish best served cold
It’s country dependent. For North America (which will be hit first):
- US is based on state (at-will, warn, etc)
- Canada is based on service. ICs have gotten 2-3 weeks per year of service. Manager/directors more
