Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Where are people applying and getting interviews for jobs outside of this company?

I have applied to 200+ jobs in the past 1-2 months and I’ve heard nothing back, not even rejections. Where are people applying for jobs and actually hearing back for interview requests? I am a Business Analyst with a data skillset.

I have applied for hundreds of jobs and gotten nothing. I finally reached out to the local job-placement-department...thing. it's government-funded and they're in all 50 states. it's totally FREE to use. they've got counselors and tips. it costs nothing so google it, find the one in your city, go there, and see if you can get something better. :o)

Do you use LinkedIn? Do you have a recruiter?

Private companies, not public companies only concerned about stock price like UHG

Yes the job market is atrocious. Between offshoring and AI it is bleak out there. UHG is not alone in what is being done to the American workforce

The jobs are fake listings

The market is terrible. I interviewed for 2 roles in the past few months that were canceled. They went through the whole interview process just to cancel the job reqs, and this was outside of Optum.

It's a tough market out there for everyone. A good friend of mine was furloughed from Optum in August 2023, and she's still looking for full-time employment. Luckily she found a one-year contract gig.

Personally, I think recruiters are using AI to review applicants, and lot of qualified people are being overlooked.

Keep the faith!

@a2
"take graduation years off"

I'm guessing that in itself will throw up a red flag, but you can try. Like you said Ageism is real and they have all the exit ramps blocked off.

You need to align your resume to each position. You can't just send the same resume to 200+ open positions. Use ChatGPT or Gemini to update your resume for each position. It's a pain in a-s but a lot of companies use AI software to scan all the resumes that come in and if your resume doesn't have the job's keywords on it then AI won't flag your resume to move forward for an actual person to review your info.

@a3 Hey, I got 2 interviews back in September for jobs, but nothing now. Same resume.

Hiring is frozen. Companies dumping all capex into AI and issuing bonds for AI. The only jobs around are basically “know enough about AI to help us automate jobs and then we can also fire you in 8-10 months.”

200 jobs? Nothing? Look at your resume/letters - something is off. Maybe your offline. Is the Computer plugged in? I once responded to "How did you hear about this job?" with "in a Dream" and HR called me for an interview just to see who would write that.

Job market is complete trash right now. This is especially true if you are looking for higher-level jobs and you are older in age. Ageism is real, and one has to modify their resume to not go so far back with jobs and take graduation years off. That said, I see plenty of YouTube videos of younger generations having a hard time as well. Good luck!
