Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

They want to pit us against each other

And they’re doing this by allowing manager discretion with missed hours. Several folks on my team were pulled into a special session to reiterate the new rules last week. As we scanned the room, we quickly realized a common theme: we all have kids.

Meanwhile, coworkers who come in late due to doctor or dentist appointments or counseling or physical therapy are allowed to skirt the 8 hour rule. It’s clear that parents have been singled out as the low hanging fruit during this recent crackdown.

I’m finding it hard not to be resentful of those around me who aren’t being held to the same standard, and I’m beginning to think that’s Just how WF wants it.

Can’t believe people like you breed.

In my experience, nobody’s abused the firm’s post-COVID tolerance more than certain coworkers with kids, who shifted much of the expense and effort of child-rearing to coworkers by being absent during work hours. These hogs have been at the trough for over five years and are (somewhat understandably) up in arms now. It’s just human nature, I suppose.

@b2 imagine being so smooth brained to believe the propaganda that this is due to coffee badging and not part of a scheme to get people to quit. They want us to be mad at each other and not leadership for this terrible policy. What will be their excuse when they go to 4 or 5 days next year? Will you believe that b.s. reason as well?

It sure looks like teamwork has ended at Wells Fargo. The rise of the corporate bully prevails.

Don't be stupid. I want EVERYONE, where the role allows, to work from home. You're not "sc--wing me" when you WFH, if anything you're doing it when you go to the office. Loud talkers, stinky mofos, gossip, distractions, no confidentiality whatsoever, it's endless. Not to mention the fact that it's very detrimental to the company bottom line to pay for all these useless buildings and the army of people involved in maintaining them. We're a bank, not slum lords. We need to exist the real estate / employee housing business completely and get much more efficient. THAT would be doing me a favor. You going to a building isn't doing a damn thing for me.

@c1 Now do the part where your employer flipped the script on you with no notice, requiring you to search for after school programs in your city that don’t have at least a six month wait.

Some of us complaining don’t have an issue with the policy. It’s the shady way that it was rolled out overnight.

When I was raising my kid, a Friday work from home was a real treat. I had to pay for the pre-school, to be in the office early, and after-school, and would collect him before the after-school closes for the day.
Then it would be the time for the extra curriculum activities. Oh, and I was a single parent. Those were times…

"They" don't have to pit anyone against anyone. Over the last few months/years youve had the people who come to work and stay the entire expected work day (which has been well known) and youve had the people who gave the company and their coworkers the middle finger and coffee badge the entire time and were only in the office when absolutely necessary. Now the second group has sc--wed up three days in office for everyone and four days a week/8hr days is a result. You can rest assured the first group already despises the second group and knows exactly who to blame for the new reality.

Oh but we have to value diversity right?

Diversity includes people with families.

Welcome to Wells Fargo, where being able to occupy an office chair for 8 hours is considered a skill set.

@a2 I was with wells since before the 2008 financial crisis and had never seen this level of cringe. Even when we were going into the office 5 days a week, no one was concerned with how many hours a day you spent in the office.

I can say unequivocally that I am much less productive over the past 3 years and I see the same from my coworkers. This is unsustainable and will hurt the company long term.

Do you work for the company? Is this the proper way to pay back your employees when everybody was sent home due to COVID?

I have more company awards than anybody on the whole team. I’ve been the company pawn for a long time. Keep getting transferred. Because I’m the newest member of this team manager has their favorites. I'm not one them. I’m treated horribly. I don’t care. I just keep collecting my paychecks.
Just focus on what you can control.
Make As much money as you can as fast as you can. You’re just a tool for this company.
Look for loopholes and opportunities to game the system whenever you can.
It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission. The corporate way.

@a3 it sounds to me like they think all exceptions should be treated equally. You’re either in the office or you’re not. Period.

it sounds like you think you should be treated differently because you have kids? I have kids and don't expect anything special and will coordinate my personal life with my work obligations. same as it ever was and same as it will ever be. while it would be great if everyone across the bank was held to the same set of rules, but life isn't fair. I will control what I can control and that is my life.

How do you know there wasnt a different meeting for people coming in late due to "doctor or dentist appointments"? The answer is that you dont. So why not just work when you're told to and stop with the incessant childlike whining? Or GTFO. Im sure there are plenty of people out there working far harder and making far less than you who would love your job.
