Some roles were once considered safe, but that’s clearly no longer the case.
To provide some context: I was working in RR8 in tech support when I began noticing RR7 and RR8 gradually emptying out. At the time, we were assured that employees had simply been relocated to RR2. That narrative quickly fell apart, and he reality was that entire departments had been laid off, and their functions quietly outsourced to India. This shift began around 2020.
If you’re still in tech support, understand that your role is not secure. The automation services are now managed from India, and OLEM—a group that was previously US-based—has also transitioned offshore. The goal is clear: expand OLEM operations in India to cover all shifts, making the US-based workforce redundant. And once they get redundant then your job will be slashed.
So if you're still in US tech support, your position is under evaluation—whether they’ve told you or not. The infrastructure is being put in place to fully shift support offshore. It’s no longer a question of if, but when. You can either be proactive and explore new opportunities, or wait for the inevitable severance conversation. Currently, the "follow-the-sun" policy is being used as a convenient excuse, and employees would be wise not to fall for the illusion, as they are entering a trial phase in a "global" model.
