Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Thinking no layoffs are coming is not very smart

Oxy cuts when oil prices are down, when they are up, when results are bad, and even when they are good. Basically, it can happen at any time. It is best to always expect layoffs here.

Is Oxy closing the Woodlands office. It would be about time. I missed that email. Where does the company stand on the new campus?

@kq+1kk71a6g4 - With the way it is going with oil and gas jobs I bet many would go to Greenway from The Woodlands and especially the you and mid career employees. There are not many oil and gas jobs in The Woodlands or close by compared to inside the loop and the Energy Corridor. If the goal is to keep an oil and gas job I will take my chances with Oxy as opposed to majors like Exxon, Chevron, and other majors.

Their plan is to force several out in the coming years with the move to greenway. They dont expect the woodlands employees to go and seem to be counting on it. The more people quit, the less the company pays in unemployment. Currently they are going through the very beginnings of training AI to do lots of jobs. The best part is that they want to employees to "use AI to assist and better their workdays"

Lineups at Costco for gas this morning. Oil prices spiking and uncertainty prevails. Went through this during Desert Storm and no one was thinking about downsizing and layoffs. Focus on the job.

OXY has a history, especially under Vicki, of avoiding layoffs. It’s something they are proud of and part of their culture. So I don’t think they will do layoffs. They may do some additional VSP’s?

I was there and agree it was tough . WTI opened today at 105.00 and is 107.00 now, so I am sure all hands on deck for the next few weeks. Oxy and others will make a lot of money, but off the backs of those in the arena less fortunate.

You should have been around drying the 1980’s and 1990’s. You would have seen many layoffs. Layoffs are good to thicken your skin and improve your overall confidence. You should try it.

Not sure you are right. I have been at Oxy for 10 years and only saw one small layoff in 2020 after the APC purchase and during the start of Covid. I have seen a few offers of a VSP, but do not consider those as layoffs.
