Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Raise your hand if you had to name names for the December RIF list.

I had to sacrifice two members of my team in OI, and I am absolutely disgusted by it. They did nothing wrong, and if I hadn’t submitted names, my manager would have.

I’m so sorry for everyone who will be impacted right before the holidays. Please don’t wait to get the notice—start applying now so you have a pipeline of opportunities going into the new year.

@jh I’m not any manager. My reply was mostly a joke, though I am annoyed by orig poster stating if they didn’t submit 2 names then their manager would do it…ok let them do it then. Don’t make a post saying oh please forgive me. 🙄

@ak I take it you are not a people manager. You can let your manager know you are interested, but that doesn't change the requirement for your directreports. Optum has to hit targets by grade level, job role, and age.

@ep you have to submit names about 5 weeks ahead of notification. For example names due on Dec 11 for Jan 22 notifications. HOWEVER, you can pull names off the list up to 10p the night before notification. So they always ask for more names than needed because you can’t add to the list after the deadline, but you can’t remove them.

@ep Months in advance.

@OP I’m curious, when do they ask you to provide names and what is the criteria they give you? How long do managers know that their employees are getting fired?

@cc Well of course cloud migrations aren't going well. The people who designed first transformation strategies and were successful are no long at UHG and/or Optum.

What this really means is whomever is left is not qualified. It's not hard to migrate to the cloud.

We were told to start investigating AWS because of the nonstop Azure outages in our area

Are OI people starting to see how bad SD (candyman) is yet. He relentlessly offshores and puts in policies without a plan to actually execute them. Thankfully he is out of OT for now. Good luck everyone.

Yes within OT. 12/18 impacts and will continue into 2026. Restructure and reorganization with no real communication

OptumTech here. Nothing for December. Q2, Q3 and Q4 of 2026 though. Offshoring.

Is 12/18 the next cut? My team is already so understaffed that I can’t imagine losing two more.

@OP It is incredibly brutal they don't make this big enough to hit WARN notices and give people more time before the holidays. It's also just d-mb because we've had two months of absolutely pointless firedrills since SD took over following a year and a half of somewhat well intentioned firedrills since the cyber incident.

We're missing out on a golden opportunity: an official announcement of 10-20% cut in workforce would help the stock.

Don't worry, this too shall pass. Wait til January after earnings. That'll be another one and if you're OI you're probably gone, too.
