Working Spouse/Partner Surcharge

Please make sure you read the details of the 2026 medical plan benefits. Cigna is adding a $55.38 per pay period surcharge if your spouse is eligible for insurance through their employer.

They are promoting a capped increase of no more than 5% but that does not take into account the spousal surcharge.

Alot of companies have a surcharge if the spouse can get their own benefits. Just mark no they are not eligible to get their own. There is no check to that. Its d-mb really.

In the 7 years at Cigna, I never had Cigna coverage. My spouse BCBS plan is WAY better. I hope they don't start charging spousal insurance.

You all have to understand the regrettable position the organization finds itself in. The annual and significant increases in ELT compensation have to come from somewhere.

If a small number of employees need to bear a slight increase in spousal/partner premiums, it's a worthy tradeoff.

@dt lucky. My spouse’s employer won’t let me on their plan since I can get my own through wonderful (sarcasm) Cigna. I’d love to be able to not stay on Cigna.

For equivalent coverage, my spouse’s insurance is half the cost of Cigna’s. We’ve been taking that coverage for years now.

@a2 it’s hard to imagine other benefits worse than Cigna’s but they are out there

@OP They're so horrible. Health insurance is the product we're selling. That should be the most generous benefit offered to employees. The constant short-changing and creative cut-backs make the message clear: we don't want to attract and retain the best and the brightest.

Why are premiums set by salary ranges but the surcharge is a fixed amount?

They got to make up money somewhere with that latest multi million dollar lawsuit.
What a F’n joke Cigna is.

The Cigna insurance is awful. Why would anyone want their spouse on it if they can get insurance through their employer? Am I missing something?
