Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why is everyone a director or senior manager here?

At least half of them don’t even know what it is they are supposed to be doing.

@aa "buy a new boat".... Didn't you mean yacht? The anti-patterns at this bank are so numerous but basically boil down to one thing. @a2 says "people rarely know what they're doing". Yet the bank hires "educated" people. I guess people aren't learning anything anymore.

It's the go-to title to give your friends when you bring them in to su-k the blood from the WF carcass.

Curious: what is a “ director “ , “executive director “ vs VP and SVP?

Executive Director here. We're going to need the naysayers to step up and go the extra mile to meet deadlines. Be a team player.

Being a team player means subscribing to adult peer pressure. It's supposed to make you feel guilty for saying 'no' when your co-workers didn't have the courage to say 'no' to the same work.

Feel guilty about not wanting to stress yourself out so that someone in HY that doesn't know your name can buy a new boat with the bonus you're earning them.

Questions?

I'm going to start listing my officer title, and only my officer title, on my resume going forward.

I'll reword my resume work experience to sound higher-level, like I oversaw what I did instead of actually doing it.

Will the future employer eventually realize that I have zero executive experience? Hard to say. It's easy to assume 'yes' but will someone who doesn't know what they're doing at that level really stand out in any way? I don't think so. I think I'll fit right in.

Can't wait!

Who's with me?

when they changed the officer titles a while back they made many of executive directors. Please tell me how individual contributors can be executive directors? Most companies someone with these titles has actual power, not here.

More layers means more obfuscation. It makes it more difficult to assign blame when something goes wrong.

Also, as you noted, these people rarely know what they're doing. So having a bunch of people very close to them on an org chart is like a security blanket - it makes them feel good.
