Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Have they actually considered the fallout from this reorg?

I’m talking about real, substantive work-impacting consequences, not just numbers on a spreadsheet. Do they even care? Or is this just about hitting some arbitrary target? It honestly feels like someone with zero understanding of how our business runs, or how the sites and teams actually function, just threw this plan together. And lazy as he-l while doing it. Slashing this many teams, cutting critical roles left and right… it’s a guaranteed disaster before it even plays out.

@ea I’ve been through six. This one is different. When your team is reduced by 80%, and you’ve spent the last 6 months training your replacement, it’s different.

On the plus side, you will now find me on the other side lobbying against future oil and gas developments unless local jobs and economic benefits are actually protected. Gorgon, Wheatstone, Delaware, finance and the Barrow Island act… what a farce.

All the jobs are being moved overseas? Huh, fooled me since everyone on my floor except two people kept their spot. Sorry that you have low-value skills.

This layoff is not like your previous 10, all the jobs are being moved over seas to low geographies. The Americans and Aussie's don't have a chance to get a job anymore.

I survived 10 layoffs in my long career with Chevron. It is a part of the normal business cycle. Some folks act like it is a first ever thing with malicious intent. I don't believe that. My best advice is to continue to put out quality work, focus on controllables, and carry on.

The simple answer is: no. And further, they don’t care.

There is no fallout. You’re gone and they continue getting paid for??????

Those who make big money, are more concerned about their net worth to go up faster than anything else, at worst they leave the company with millions and land at another with similar or better compensation.

The ELT is concerned about the stock price and ensuring the dividend is paid on time. If that means more layoffs or buying more companies to gain reserves then that is what they'll do. It's very short sighted but it's the reality.

This week some managers came to me with some extraordinarily basic RACI questions that should have been foundational to the development of the workflow and, ultimately, organization structure at the GM level.

They don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

@a3 this is the way. I’ve turned already turned down “extras” that I would’ve previously picked up. “Work to rule” as the Brit’s say - not a thing past my job description, and not a moment outside established hours. I’m tired of propping up these high paid psg clowns. And, as another post points out, promotions are basically a thing of the past. And I suspect pay raises will be similar. I’ll do my job well, but with zero incentive to do extra, zero extra they will get!

@a2 F-that. I don't shy away from telling my Team Lead that work isn't going to be done if I am juggling multiple projects or am on vacation. I work extra hours sometimes and don't mind doing the work during the evenings or weekends if it was from my own fault, but downright incompetence on their part for not having the right people doing the projects or por planning is their own fault.

Upper management who made this decision doesn’t care because they are not going to have to deal with the repercussions.

It’s the little people who are gonna have to work nights and weekends to keep up with all the work.

That’s not upper management’s problem.

I’m so glad I don’t work there anymore.
