Pods were a 2014 McKinsey drunken Sunday night idea. This was back in the day when the Share Price was approaching speeds you could get a ticket for, as oppose to now when the stock price could be overtaken by a mobility scooter with a dodgy wheel.

McKinsey came in to help the ailing CSC company in 2015 and charged a good few million to run a few training courses and throw a load of unfinished templates and powerpoints that lacked any branding or thought and introduced the Integrated Delivery Organisation (another of their ideas). They templates were half-agile and half-assed.

McKinsey called their idea the "Next Generation Delivery Model" or NextGen or NGDM as the template headers would display it. One UK well known reference client had also adopted the McKinsey model before CSC Global, but removed it within 12 months due to the costs of running them.

The Integrated Delivery Organisation or iDO as it was to be called was a service delivery model delivering services, support and projects at regional Points-Of-Delivery old poddy woddy style. It was meant to improve client focus; centralise key skills in pyramids; reduce layers of approval and improve workflow by automating processes.

In practice, the model increased client triage wait times, removed key skills to create interesting points-of-failure and rather than increase skills, it increase low cost resource that were called 'highly skilled'. With PoD's clients could wait 3-6 months for a PM for their complex projects. Accounts were happy, because they could blame the PoD's.

The Workforce Optimisation Plan (later to become known as DXC) was a programme of work designed to increase the distance between people and their employment. It helped to streamline delivery by removing it. Processes became bloatware, automation was Excel and TES and a remote monitoring being a a system that emailed whoever was on holiday at the time. The CI/CD pipeline was Azure, but mainly Excel, the kanban board was post it notes on a whiteboard where the integrity of configuration management was highly reliant on no-one opening the window in summer.

Clients would play one PoD off against another - they knew which region to get the cheaper deal (so much for consistency), yet the clients moaned about that in surveys even though they had used it to their advantage many times. In short DXC were losing money, they were not seeing the fruit of their mistakes and the margins were getting tighter.

The endless list of PoD roles - Squaddies and captains, who led teams organised by colours from Purple (denoting high complexity) to Brown (denoting, so-called SME's who turn most projects brown).

PoD's are a dangerous idea. A PoD for your career is what a black hole is to the earth. It will ruin your Mondays.

But anyway, its been 10 years, so its due a final farewell tour.

Us gordys maybe not that clever but we are in the top management of this company, and folk up here understand our twang.

Agree were more primarly focussed coscutters than growth due to the state of things in the NE, but then again alot of dxc managers are like that.

Pods lol so ancient.

They were disbanded years ago, because DG cant think off any new ideas so goes back to a failed end of life legacy idea.

How 3rd rate can you get, the guy is way over his position, deffo awarded the job on a favour, and no one understands that funny voice of his.

Magic Friday normally means ( in CSC day) - An adjustment to survive program, meaning more WTR programs - first N no of VR, then N no of Compulsory Redundancies

How many developers does it take to write a line of code. In DXC just one. But we need a project manager, a program manager, a line manager, a test manager and a client manager all to get involved in ensuring said line of code never makes it anywhere near production.

meaningless.

Did anyone understand any of this? Dan creating work for his existence, and many Indian leads chipping in with waffle to justify themselves.

They going to have meetings about meetings just to figure out what they mean, so much for simplification. More layers seems the way forward.

It’s just an excuse to lay people off who they forced to work from home and take cheaper staff on working from a limited number of offices.
