Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn feed

As I scroll through LinkedIn all I see is multiple posts of folks excited to be starting their new job with Chevron India. It's hard to not be angry knowing that those folks are replacing coworkers who were laid off or will eventually be laid off once the engine is fully functional. While I am fortunate to retain a job it still doesn't make sense to me we do these layoffs every 4-5 years. I started in 2012 and have been through 4 now. Wonder if Exxon does this better too.

@e3 no, you’re incorrect. Starting jobs are around 50k

I also heard the “Injuns” At the “Engine” are being offered starting wages of 20K to 25K per year. That’s why Chevron is having a difficult time hiring people in India. :)

Might I suggest we stop "blaming" individuals taking jobs in India? Myself, I've never even considered whether my accepting a job would put someone else in another country out of work. Since the late 70's U.S. CEO "pay" has shot up 1,209.2% - all of us worker bees saw 15.3% growth over the same timeframe... The problem is leaderships' greed, not individuals just trying to make a living and support their families.

@a4 what leverage can be used to force leadership to care more about the employees? Laying off one incompetent leader making $35MM to retain 200+ employees that actually get the work done sounds like a win to me. I also think the leaders in the ivory tower should have to deliver the news to every employee and their family face-to-face instead of hiding behind consultants and forcing lower level leaders to do their dirty work. The huge disconnect between upper level leaders and employees can sure make those getting the work done feel like numbers on a paper rather than valued employees.

The irony of all of this is the ENGINE employees will be replaced by AI within the decade.

@ad+1 he's busy encouraging and starting wars. Maybe, all the hardcore supporters who don't have bone spurs and voted for him will get drafted.

It would be one thing if the Engine was actually a good idea and going to make shareholders rich. But it's not, at least not in the mid to long term. It is full harvest mode for Chevron. The shelling out and harvesting of American companies for short term profits is a disturbing trend.

I was told by business owner that offshores much of his work that the price for Bangalore talent is rising fast. In fact he says he doesn't even look for talent in the tech center anymore because he knows the economics won't work.

@ad, No, most Elite Liberal Millionaires do not support the current pres. or his policies, but do cling to your false narrative and why not spout a few more pieces of fiction that your side constantly makes up? Leftists lie basically anytime they write or talk.

Yeah let’s get mad at the pawns, the poor souls that are just players in the game like us. That doesn’t increase the risk of aggressive behaviors against foreigners, does it?

Lets see....

The $35,000,000 / year guy wants to hire more $35,000 / year resources so the share holders will be happier and HIS stock and bonuses will be higher.

That's the root of the issue.

Why resent those folks?

They are bottom feeders just like the rest of us.

Look at the leadership instead.
