Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Physical presence 2-3 days a week

I see people coming into the office before lunch and leave office before 3 pm. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they are really "working." I also see people in their office glue to their work computer for HOURS with the lights OFF = ALL of them were SAFE on this round. Maybe we should follow their pattern to survive

Many people start work at 7 am for meetings with teams in IDC (India Dev Center) this goes to 10am, then jump in car commute to office for middy work/onsite meetings. Leave before rush hour to optimize commute. Then night meetings start at 8 pm - 11pm. It’s a very full work day.

@b7 if you believe this than why do you still work here? Why do you see a future at a poorly managed company? What logic are you using? Oh look there is a train wreck up ahead with a toxic waste spill let's get closer for a better view... Smart people read the warning signs and make other plans. It is your life and your career so do as you see fit. If you are constantly complaining and just shaking your head at the decisions being made than maybe it is time to be working on your contingency plan. Just bit-ching about it rarely fixes anything.

People are working from early morning till late at night. In addition to this, they are asked to go to the office to retain their space. Sometimes, you are the only team member assigned to that office site, and the rest of the team is globally distributed, yet you are still asked to go to the office to keep up the return-to-office (RTO) policy of 2-3 days. To have a stretched work hour, plus staying compliant with RTO, all are adding more to the agony. This is why some select to visit the office whenever they can - like between meetings or during lunch time. Traffic hours are also to be avoided to keep the commute short and dedicate all other hours towards work.

This is because local Oracle management has zero ideas which actually add value to the company - i.e. money coming in with new tools/products that can be monetized. The reason they push nonsense like this is to justify their jobs and show they are doing something of value. I swear this sounds like the office I used to work in with most people "coffee badging" just to satisfy this requirement. Most of the North America offices will continue to be trimmed to save money and likely GBUs are being setup to be sold off as Oracle pivots to be an AI infrastructure/utility company.

They monitor badge scans and your computer activity to calculate a loyalty score. That score factors into whether you get RIF’d.

Post-Covid I'd just go to have coffee and leave and that was enough to keep my office space and qualify for WARN when they let me go.
