Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Annual Review (maybe on the list shortly)

Received my annual review, rated a 2 with no concrete examples of why just comments about working partners provided great feedback but leadership felt differently. Was this a surprise? In the sense that I received feedback randomly less than 5 times during the year with no formal feedback during 1:1s (if I had them), yes. In the sense that I expected no less from my leadership team, nope. So definitely thinking I’m a future list as I specifically asked if I was going on a formal CAP and was told no that we’ll talk again in a few days to make a plan for 2026. Sigh. Just needed to “vent”.

@ak totally agree with this statement. The rating 2 does not allow you to apply for any other positions within the organization. It can also mess with how they respond if you do seek other employment outside UHG. Legally they can only say if you could be re-hired or not. Make a statement on your review. Print all your prior performance reviews as well.

@ak put your important files in a password protected zip file, company can't scan those even as they leave the email server.

@ct please do what @ct outlined. Sometimes HR visibility can help. Document everything

@at 100% agree with this. Also, you can open a case challenging your review rating with HR. I did it, won, incurred subsequent retaliation, opened another case, and now the leader in question isn’t around anymore.

Others have said it, make sure you have copies of everything important at home. I’m sorry. I think Thursday is going to be a massacre.

If the standards are low and the rankings are arbitrary, being labeled the worst loses its meaning. Particularly on my team, it almost feels like winning to be ranked last, a race to the bottom. And the gold metal goes to...proof there was never a race to begin with.

What I'd do is get copies of all your past stellar reviews, find a good employment lawyer, and then ask for document able proof on why you got a 2. they won't have it, and that's where your lawyer comes in, and most good employment lawyers only take payment when they win, because they'll only take the cases they know they'll win.

Frankly, if you truly and I really mean it, disagree and were never aware, formally, or informally informed that you were not meeting the standards all throughout the 2025, consider writing a rebuttal. It’s a permanent record. Only facts, inconsistencies, errors, anything you can back up. Keep it professional and follow the channels. Acknowledge, but do not agree. Give you example…if you were always say 3 or 4 and now you’re abruptly a 2. That’s a red flag. Protect your rights.

@a1 HR won't help. They'll refer you back to your boss.

Sorry, But this doesn't bode well for your future here. Sharpen you pencil, get things in order, and be prepared. DON'T QUIT ... Get you package and unemployment and move on. But be emotionally ready because he 2 is your message.

Do not leave on your own. Get severance. But start looking outside.

Same thing happened to me after 15+ years, was placed on a 2 which was a forced rank, I was the unlucky person to get the 2 on our team. Probably because I wasn't management favorite a-s kisser. I got laid off, if you got a 2 start looking now for a new job

Are you with Housecalls?

Multiple colleagues saying their reviews started with:

"You're a rockstar!"
"Excellent metrics"
"Strong performer"

And THEN---you're a 3. No raise for you.
They are playing the layoff game, that rankings are forced.
I would definitely start looking around but print out your previous reviews and make them lay you off.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, you deserve better. I have my review tomorrow and praying for myself but also for you and my other friends at work who are scared. It's just not fair.

@OP Having done a stint as first tier manager - that 2 was mandated, not for you specifically, but -someone- had to get it. Sorry it was you.

Go to HR and ask for examples of why you are on a 2.
