Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why is everyone going to Exxon?

I just perused my LinkedIn and noticed yet another Chevron contact is moving on to Exxon. This has to be the third person in a month and I don't have a ton of contacts. I don't think I've seen anyone make the move to Exxon before from Chevron (I'm sure it happens), but we definitely had talent coming the other direction in the past. I guess our loss is their gain.

It’s interesting how people are shocked at how much the culture has changed at Chevron in the last 10 years but then they think there’s no possible way the culture could’ve changed that Exxon for the better.

Speaking as someone that has worked in both and had a spouse that works for Exxon the whole time, we have seen the change of Chevron and the change of Exxon - you’re missing out if you are not trying to find a way to Exxon. anybody that’s speaking about how much of a Shark Tank Exxon is and how everyone is scared about their job….stop being jealous, it’s nowhere near as bad as it was 10+ years ago. Mgmt realized they sc--wed up and they made changes. That’s the difference between Chevron and Exxon. Chevron managers constantly prove they are unable or unwilling to change.

So if you wanna keep talking about how bad Exxon is to make yourself feel better that you’re still at Chevron then just stop visiting this website- that’s probably gonna help you a lot more.

I have been with CVX nearly 20 yrs came in as an experienced hire. Over this period of time the flow I have seen has been from Exxon to Chevron. I have worked with three people that did just that. After this most recent Hunger Game we had a guy in our group leave and go the other way and I have heard about others that have done the same. Not saying this is a trend just stating what I have seen.

Lol, 'FAKE NeWz, durp'. Either you don't work for CVX, or are completely oblivious. Post reorg attrition has been huge. It's nearly impossible not to notice.

I love the people talking about the negatives of Exxon while they’re still at Chevron and haven’t left.

If Exxon is so bad and people keep dropping like flies there why do they keep destroying Chevron?

If you’re gonna be jealous, be quiet.

@as "That being said pension at EM will probably be going away in the next few years." has been said in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 206, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and will be in 2026, 2027, 2028, and so forth. But eventually it has to be true, right genius!

The people making the move understand that at least at Exxon you get exactly what is advertised. Perform or be cut. The culture is cutthroat but at least it's out in the open instead of Chevron's version of "culture": kindness to your face and duplicity behind your back. People would rather make more money for an openly toxic workplace than one who pretends to not be toxic but is even more insidious the deeper you dig.

Exxon uses the stack ranking model. Depending on the environment, the bottom 5 to 10% are let go every year. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Exxon brings on experienced hires to help with the PIP process. No one will be able to come in and get 15 yrs to be eligible for pension. Saves them money. That being said pension at EM will probably be going away in the next few years.

Exxon has better pumps and cleaner restrooms. If you fill up 4 times you get 10 cents off per gallon on the next visit. A very good deal to save on gas prices

Exxon knows they can shop for talent at Chevron right now, especially for employees that live up closer to the Spring campus and don’t want to deal with the commute 4 days a week.

@OP Many of my colleagues are looking externally. There’s no future here so why would we stay. The company is making it known work will move offshore. We need to plan for our families future so we don’t get caught without a job. Not just Exxon but people are getting out of CVX

Sounds about right, Why be in the position of a wide receiver when Exxon comes in for that sudden kidnapping at 2am.

@a1 Not fake news. I just rechecked my LinkedIn. There is a reservoir engineer, a production engineer moving into drilling, an Earth modeler, and a fourth who was in my feed earlier but I did not pay close attention to catch who it was but they have not updated their current job yet.
