Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Confused about WARN, please help clarify

How do layoffs work with WARN? If WARN requirement is 60 or 90 days depending on the state, is that your severance? For someone that's been here for 1 or 2 years, would severance get bumped up to the WARN requirement instead of the 2 or 4 weeks? Thank you.

@b0 From other posts I've seen, they are not stacked. Ex if your severance is more than 60 days form your tenure, you get that severance. If your tenure severance equals less than 60 days, then you get the 60 days.

So if we're WARN eligible, ideally we should see WARN Pay included in our severance package? Or is this separate?

@ar it's a federal law so yes but the federal number is 60 days ..
there was some class action filed about this before that someone here may know about ...

Does this apply to remote workers located in CA or NY?

Can only speak to CA but if the location you work at lays of less than 50 people a WARN notice is not required and trust me the company takes full advantage of this

Yes you get the Warn 60 or 90 as long as it's mass layoffs under the law
10/31 will be last date worked - so from then
no additional severance after that from what i've heard unless you have been here longer to qualify
also i don't know if you need to be staff - or if union and contract freelance applies too

Para doesn't even post ahead time anymore / it posts the next week - they choose to just pay it out and call your last day 90 days forward
some companies officially warn you and you have to work that 90 days ...

For 1 - 2 years of service, you will get the minimum of the WARN period for the state. The WARN notice for this round wont be filled with the state for a few weeks, that is why they will just pay the notice period. So, if layoffs happen on Wed, you will be out by Friday

@a1 I thought the way they get around it is by using severance for that time period? That's what I'm trying to clarify

The WARN notices are from the last lay offs during the summer. Companies have found a way around posting lay offs ahead of time on WARN websites. WARN is pretty much useless.
