Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Being nice was never an excuse to dodge accountability, it was part of our success

Quote below not mine. Elevating from another poster. MW, your money can never make you sleep soundly. Know that you garner zero respect from us. And you don’t have the guts to accept any criticism.

“For me, the turning point was when the CEO openly stated, “stop being nice.” That should have been a PR and cultural disaster, no matter how it was framed. In my experience at Chevron, "being nice" meant mentoring juniors, collaborating as a team, and going the extra mile to achieve collective success. It was never an excuse or a way to dodge accountability for KPIs—it was about fostering a supportive, high-performing culture.”

Unfortunately, our business is hard-nosed, take-no-prisoners. You have very real opponents. You can do all those things mentioned but think of it like professional sports. You are always in a competitive environment. You will only succeed as a team, not as an individual. Unfortunately at Chevron, your management does not help you, the working team has to band together and formulate strategy and tactics. Like professional sports, you will only be playing together a short time, but the network you build will last your whole career.

The thing is "being nice" was never the problem, the problem is management with their little kingdoms and egos slowing thing down.

If we are serious about feedback, VPs, GMs, and other Management Should be open to REAL FEEDBACK, it may not be nice, but that's what they are looking for. CES is a very silly and performative exercise, instead ask pointed questions about how things are getting done and where there is waste. You don't need fu--ing consultants, you just need to be a little curious.

These are 80% hopeless a--holes that got to their positions by being political experts, not business or engineering experts. They will fight underlings being able to provide feedback as to their performance as it will undermine their authority and egos.

Accurate as you can get, and dare I say that Christian values were observed and appreciated.

@a1 These days, it seems like every email that comes out from management has an element of threat attached to it. Sad really.

MW and MN are unconcerned about the postings on this website or the issues caused by the current reorg. They believe that they have saved the company by repositioning the company in this uncertain economic period. The dividend and stock price are the top two issues on their radar screen. Face facts. They have all the cards except one. The is the leaving card. I suggest you get out now. I did. Make a clean break and move on.

Just remember…what goes around comes around. MW and MN will have their turn. They will be irrelevant in the not too distant future. Unfortunately, only then might they reflect on how much damage they have done to the company. This coming from someone who was once a fan (never a fan of MN), but no longer.

@a1 SPOT ON!

Someone had compared MW to a sociopath, and it makes sense. “Normal” people do not behave like he has or incite others to behave in such a repugnant manner.

I’d tell him to go talk to EAP, but didn’t he get rid of them, too? Probably because they saw thru his bullsh-t.

They have just moved from "managing" to "bullying".
