@bg That's kind of what happened when they went remote. They were able to put together remote teams, even made hiring easier, as you weren't limited to Minnesota when you did the hiring. They could find someone with the same skills for less pay with such a fantastic option when sourcing wasn't limited to local. Now it's created a weird thing where none of your team is in the same location. So suddenly they want to bring everyone back into the office, but how does that work when your team is scattered all over the place and not in the same location?

Just means instead of Zoom and Slack from your home office with your other teammates. You will Zoom and Slack in the office between other offices. But you are all still distant from each other. It all seems pretty pointless to me. It's just to show Wall Street how busy we all are, that these buildings aren't vacant.

@jc twitter is dead because Elon strong armed everyone into coming into the office. People left the company. Work responsibilities per person increased. Morale died. And so did the company.

That's probably what's going to happen to target. Their c-suite keep making bad decisions after bad decisions recently.

They have such a disconnect to how the economy shift during and post COVID affected the average persons lives.

Look at Tesla! Musk required his employees to RTO 5x a week and made a good point, how frequently do companies with remote employees ship great products? We need face-to-face interactions for mental health, collaboration and CAREER GROWTH. Remote employees should not be able to navigate upwards in their career tbh. It would be mo--nic to have remote employees promoted while someone busts their behind coming into the office, collaborating and doing the real work!

Be like Tesla (RTO 5x each week, 40 hrs minimum requested by Musk)
Don't be like Twitter (built by remote engineers, dead now)

There isn't enough space to have everyone have an assigned desk, I'm not sure in what way this isn't a way to quietly lay off people for not being "team players"

I would actually love to be in the office working with a team of smart people. It's one of the things that I miss. But, the 7 or 8 people I work with are all in different states. So, I would end up going in to sit on zoom calls, in an open environment where everyone else is doing the same thing. That will be supper disruptive. It requires a change to how the workspace is designed.

I'm pretty sure remote work agreements have to be renewed at certain intervals. If that's the case, they can simply not renew those agreements. If remote workers leave, if the job is backfilled (and not shipped to TII) they'll just post them as hybrid. This has already been happening.

@dx we will all eventually get to 5 days, I'm sure of it.

They take a little at a time to minimize the fallout I'm a controlled way.

@bd fully remote members are already classified as remote, but I suspect if they change positions, that can be reevaluated.

It’s so silly that there’s so much inconsistency with RTO mandates re: how many days and whether remote workers have to move back. I’m so sorry your team is being called back but also, try and appreciate the two days since the rest of us are having to do three.

Other major companies in Twin Shitties also doing 3-4 days. It is a bizarre situation where you are punished for living near the HQ. A lot of people in the legal/compliance tree going in when their manager lives in California and the rest of their immediate team in Florida and Texas. So you sit on Zoom and Slack in a tower alone instead of your home office.

Any word on what it means for fully remote TMs? Are they asking people to move to Minneapolis?
