Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is now, Panopticon Culture and Authoritarian Workplace

Ford’s 4-day in-office mandate isn’t just about presence—it’s about control.

It signals a shift toward a Panopticon Culture, where employees feel constantly watched. Trust is replaced with surveillance.

This is how you create an Authoritarian Workplace, not a collaborative one.

Rethink control. Rebuild trust.
Employees will spy, lie against each other.

Ford Motor Land owns the office building and charges excessive rent. Exactly who owns Ford Motor Land and receives its profits isn’t clear, but apparently they are well represented on Ford’s board of directors. These representatives can force Ford Motor Company to rent office space at above market rates if Ford Motor has employees to put in the offices. They can also force Ford Motor to hire more employees than it needs as long as the business is profitable.

Sigh. As with all of the recent psy ops perpetrated on the public, the boot lickers and the bought will go along quietly.

Privacy is a status symbol in the workplace, part of the pecking order. The more privacy you have, the higher your rank.

I think that is one of the driving factors for RTO. When you work remotely, everyone is just a disembodied voice and an image on a screen. It puts us all at the same level as the boss and they can’t flex their status symbols. That vexes them mightily.

@a1

Karen from accounting will absolutely rat you out. Problem is even if you are minding your own business, people in general just can't leave you alone. You are assuming an accounting Karen would have a reason for minding someone else's business. Are you really that thick in the noggin?

Quite frankly, it’s about time employees get back to work. You are paid to do a job. Just do it and follow your employer’s wishes.

There are many honest employees, but there are also scammers who pretend to work from home, but do other things (I see it first hand with a neighbor). Their manager is just as d-mb (who either doesn’t care, or got DEI promoted and cover for their lack of managerial skills by not saying/doing anything).

We worked in the office prior to COVID (aka the Hunan virus). The badge thing is a reaction to the lack of employee following management’s wishes. A simple cause and effect scenario.
