Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Any Execs (VP-level, director-level, etc.) experience the RIF? I dont think so!!!

Im just wondering bc I have a bunch of coworkers who were RIFed throughout this yr. I know multiple ppl at the manager level as well, but i dont hear anything about ppl above the manager level. IMHO, if a director is "worth" 3-5x an annual salary of the ppl that are being RIFed, then they should really be asking if this exec has that much value!

Ive met some good directors at Elevance, but a HUGE majority of them are terrible. Most of them have too much power and act accordingly- some directors Ive experienced take more days off than we do or only pretend to do work or care about those below them. Our managers were the ones who usually protected us and did their best to advocate for us. There were some really good managers that were RIF while the bad ones, or the ones who dont do anything, seemed to have stayed.

One of my office buddies had a director who didnt turn on his camera until midway through his RIF. Another director practically ghosted or gave very short replies to another one of my co-workers after she was RIFed. It just seems so disrespectful on a human level. And these are the directors who are on camera wearing t-shirts or pajamas. These are the directors who seem to do the bare minimum, and their jobs are safe??

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant.

Wrong! A regional commercial business email announcement just came out 10 minutes ago that a number of medical staff directors and RVP’s will be “exploring other opportunities”. It looks like unless you’ve got a “C” before your 3 letter job title, no one is safe.

A number of directors I knew were in the August RIF, not sure about 10/18 yet as I got RIF’d and I’ve been more self focused the last few days.

Yes, they have RIF'd their fair share of directors and above. This is why I've said you shouldn't bother going into the office if you are remote. They are going to kick you to the curb like they did to the people in my department. And all of you folks reading this that are currently being asked to put names on a RIF list, just remember that your name will be going on the list next and your manager won't care that you came into an empty office 3 days per week to foster company culture and collaboration with the random guy in the office that never seems to do any work.

It definitely is balanced. I've met directors and VPs that I loved an others who wouldn't give you the time of day or who to be honest look down on the people that they work with. I also think the overall disorganized system at elevance breeds distrust between leadership.

They laid off a FL director for PR yesterday and I got laid off today PR associate. Different areas of the state and completely different positions. They told me they made the decision based on who had the least seniority within the company but that can’t be true because they kept other directors that came after and other employees in my team that started after me.

Higher levels are rifed. I've noticed a pattern of it occurring over the weekend rather than on a regular weekday.

My director hardly ever comes to work and yet she is still with the company.

i just cant believe this company! I found out my director essentially told my associate after he was rifed to not contact her unless he had technical questions about the rif- even then wait for the rif meeting later. So essentially dont contact her, and if he absolutely needs to, do it couple weeks later. He reached out to her first asking if he can call her when she was free because he was still processing being rif and was wondering what he did wrong. Then she responded like that.

For her to be that dismissive, what kind of a director am I working for?

I think the point to be made is how many $50k associates could we keep on the ground if we reduced the $250k staff vps.

There is zero incentive to manage anyone. As an E, why would I take on a team for the same pay band like it's lateral, when your path beyond that isn't clear or guaranteed.

And then you can still need rifed at anytime - you and your team.

chill man. i made around 50k...so say that to my face about the salary Post ID: @xle+1v3OExsH your missing th point of @OP entirely. "Oh it's not '3-5x,' it's only double!" The OP was questioning the value and disrespect they witness from directors and above. Can you honestly say that all directors/VP like you (im guessing) are above criticism? Youre kinda feeding into the point the OP had that you "have too much power and act accordingly"

@OP
You are making assumptions that are 100% incorrect.
First, I know of at least one VP who was RIFed today.
Second, why would you think directors make 3-5x more than e11-e14 level? Double, yes. Plenty directors work their tails off. And did you know that M-level directors don't make a penny more than E directors, even though they have to manage entire teams?

Your exaggerations and assumptions show your ignorance.

Yes, they do, but not at Elevance Health! Look at what CVS CEO did after the stock plunged 16%.

There are directors and Vps who have been RIF though I dont know how many. I agree that it seems like there are directors who should have more accountability...i know some directors who are way too young or inexperienced to be at that level or those directors who dont care

Way too many Directors at this company who don’t appear to be doing anything. I reported to a Director of Data Planning and Analysis who showed away always on Teams and would ghost almost all my 1 on 1’s who no explanation or apology. I think they could riff have if these people and be fine. Somebody had to do the actual “work” and it’s certainly not the Directors.

Directors have been given the boot. That's the highest I know of. Some execs retired, my guess is they were forced to retire. Of course it's a very small number compared to us common folks.
