Decent place to work if you’re anything but a white male.. They have capped out opportunity for us. I have 4 and counting documented cases of rejections for interviews in which the candidate was told the standard ‘there are more qualified candidates.’ Mind you this is from a small group that I work with. Beauty here is we know and have validated that the actual hires were in fact not more qualified. The attorney is extremely optimistic. Any other examples are appreciated. Reply here with as much detail as you can and we can plan a way to communicate outside this forum. This has to stop

The goal I heard tossed around was promotions should be 80% minority. So yeah, if you’re a white male…time to move on if you haven’t already.
This is an absolutely frightening and eye opening thread if it is even remotely true.
I had hiring managers say that their next hire had to be a non white male or female, it didn't matter who was the most qualified. I had a coworker who was directed that 50% of her applicants sent to the hiring manager had to be non white males or females, she asked what she should do if the only non white applicants were the least qualified of all the candidates, she was told send them as it was more important to get those to the hiring manager that fit the direction of the company.
I am continually passed over for promotion at this company, even though I am tasked with work beyond my pay grade as my role. I have been passed over twice by lesser employees who were not white males. I confronted my manager and was told , "They tried to promote me and could not." I grew up poor, hungry and belittled as a illegitimate son of a woman shacked up with a felon who was not my father. Is that disadvantaged enough for this place? Wth over
I just love how the commenter below of the tolerant party is like “We’re tired of white men! Male privilege! Gah!!” What a joke. Don’t you get it? Your party tells you that you’re a victim so they get your vote. It’s working brilliantly. The tolerant party is the least tolerant of people who don’t agree with them and says stuff to not lift people up but to make people feel like victims that need a savior, except all they do is push this notion that you that you’re a victim. It’s a clown show. And if you were really all about equality and tolerance, you wouldn’t want the stuff that’s going on at the company today. You would want everyone to get a fair shot at any given role. And not for someone to NOT be hired just because they’re a white male. I’m of a protected class, by the way, and am not a white male myself. But I can validate what others have said below about hiring.
With the last set of comments it’s understandable that Allstate is doomed.
The irony is that TW would never be able to rise to his current level under his stewardship. At least no one will die because of the DEI hiring unlike medical school admissions.
@OP+1rTqIhPA 😆 🤣 😂 oh! No! A white man crying about bias hiring. The world is fed up with white men, male privilege.
If they dropped the collage requirement, I guess my scrapbooking diploma won’t impress them either.
@dsbu+1rTqIhPA They dropped the collage requirement? Oh no, who is going to make all the collages? But, yeah DEI is the problem. Smh
DEI has been proven time and time again that less qualified candidates are being hired. Proof- they have been dropping the collage requirement. Nice try spinning the BS
If you are a white male struggling to land an interview, then you should definitely look inward. The reasoning behind many DEI initiatives is to provide opportunities for those who are qualified/have the same qualifications as their peers, but are overlooked due to factors such as skin color.
Based on the way this conversation is going, it appears that many people fail to realize that DEI accounts for more than race—it also covers people such as veterans or disabled veterans. Some of you all are solely upset at seeing black people being provided opportunities that you don’t think they deserve. How about you stop whining and look elsewhere for opportunities. There’s plenty of companies that would love to have you!
And he-l, maybe Tom Wilson is a DEI hire (remember: DEI is more than just based on race/gender) since he’s obviously unqualified but somehow still the head of this ship.
It’s disappointing to see how many of my colleagues think this way about their peers. I’m sorry that you did not get the promotion. Blame leadership if they have sh---y hiring practices and are hiring people genuinely unqualified. Rather than resulting to insults and harmful stereotypes. At the end of the day, the only one who knows if the hire is qualified is the one looking at their resumes.
Management is being tasked with 75% of promotions being minorities. There are bonuses at stake for upper level leadership. I get it, but at the same time, if some non minority is ki-ling it and is overdue for a promotion, it’s pretty messed up (and racist) to go with someone else based on skin color.
@7goe+1rTqIhPA .. Can't never could do nuthin!
What a bunch of markarkey. I was at Allstate the first time for 7 years. A tip performer and was never promoted. They kept promoting WM and WW who were not performing. I quit! As a person of color with 2 Degrees and performing my butt off, I kept being passed over for clear folks! Stop it! Clear folks have a better chance of advancing then minorities. Look in the mirror buddy! Clear folks still have the upper hand!
And the rabble that is being hired offshore is just as bad as the onshore call center drones. They are learning English and some have advanced degrees. Allstate can pay them even less since they’re off shore and Allstate licks their chops over that cheap labor. This is a rotten place to work. Infinite lack of respect for call center stiffs.
Keep those people where they belong. We don't need their hood drama toxifying other elevated roles.
@fsx+1rTqIhPA you are referring to a call center position that has always been historically a minority dominated work area, and that goes for any other company with a customer service/call center component.
It's quick, doesn't require a degree, and consistently struggles with employee retention because it's a 30k a year sweatshop.
You are implying that there is a deliberate push to only hire minorities into those customer service roles, but the god honest truth is that other people simply don't want to put up with the bs of that job, and it's commonly minorities that don't possess the chops on a resume for anything else that isn't retail or hospitality.
Ask your friends what qualifications they possess and I can more than guarantee they either don't have a degree, or an undesirable Associates in something that isn't lucrative. Their resume packs entry level after entry level job (a shift supervisor doesn't count as management level)
Beyond the DEI thing, it’s just become a place where you can’t grow a career. I’ve seen countless examples over the years. It’s a steady paycheck but if you’re looking for development or long term career growth, this isn’t the place.
Not sure who it was in the Ivory Tower that thought it a great company initiative to hire those who can't say "ask" correctly into a position of management and influence.
Beware of discounts in parachutes, brain surgery and tattoos. And private counseling.
The private counselor will take advantage of you.
I'm a person of color, and was let go RIF'd Oct 2023. More concerned about ageism.
Su-ks for everyone.
Go woke and go broke. There’s been so much hate all the way around and now the company is trying to solve it by DEI cr-p? No, only love can solve hate. This company deals in untruths and fabrications. If the company truly cared about DEI they wouldn’t need a program or special office for it. Ridiculous. Get this place dismantled and sell off its parts already. Go private
Still available for private counseling at discounted rate. Take advantage for personal development.
As someone who is not white and not a male and not even straight I for one am sick and tired of this company exploiting my color and my gender for its own selfish image and certainly the money that comes with it. I am offended by DEI and it needs to end. And it needs to end now! It is hurting this company Does anyone not see the correlation between when the hiring due to race and gender started hitting its peak and the quick decline of this company? DEI and hire by race and gender IS NOT working. The quicker we the employees decide collectively to reject and disavow this DEI and discrimination in hiring the quicker we can end this DEI nonsense and rid the company of this process and the toxic morale it causes. We can end DEI in this company by simply not acknowledging it. Not to mention getting the qualified people back into the proper roles to right this seriously misguided and out of control ship.
@1ckx is offering private counseling based on presumptuous regional bias? That's the sign of someone who should be the last person from whom anyone seeks private counseling.
I’m not a white male and can definitely say that choices are made to not hire white males, even if they’re the best candidate. It would be better if we stopped looking at color, gender, and orientation to determine who we hire and just pick the best person for the role. I would never want to be hired because I fit a profile. That’s offensive to me - I want to be selected because I am the best fit for the role. Yet somehow today picking the non-white male is celebrated, even if it’s the wrong decision.
This definitely happens at Allstate under DEI initiatives and has been going on for some time. I've personally seen them pass on the most qualified candidate because they were a white men. Personally, I think it is easy to see that this is a mistake and will cause long issues at Allstate in such a competitive industry. We should always be hiring the best candidate for the role no matter their gender, ethnicity, or cultural background and protections should be had for all people. Many industries have reversed course in these initiatives and replaced them with protections for historically discriminated groups versus forcing hiring managers to meet unrealistic standards where the wrong people will make their way to the wrong positions. Here is to a future where all people are created equal.
We hire nowadays because of the color of your skin rather than the content of your character
After 300 years of American white males successfully discriminating against others, they are getting a taste of discrimination and now they are whining. I guess discrimination is bad the moment it no longer favors you.
Crudely put and a little insensitive...but you're not wrong.
Remember 2-3 years ago how excited Tommy was talking about "the blacks and the browns" how he so casually put it? If I recall it was during one of his infamous COVID era town halls that he was slurring through after a morning gin binge. Interestingly it was the one town hall that was not saved on the company website to watch later.
“ by hiring darks”? What are you, a re--rd from the south that feels election was stolen from the Orange felon? Show some respect for fellow human beings, regardless of race. If you want some private counseling, I am available.
Get this stupidity out of here
Allstate makes a lot of coin off of hiring darks. So they are going to make up the majority of positions at least for entry level. Then they are pretty much capped skills and business sense wise at those positions. That is where whites exceed and move up if they can tolerte the trek through. At least that is how we determine roles above Grunt Plus.
Allstate pays below market wages and has benefits that aren’t very good either. Consequently most everyone hired from Manager up was marginal and often lacking experience. I definitely saw some promotions that were “affirmative action” as a specific (since fired) VP tried to curry favor with the C Suite. But you know what? These “affirmative action” promotions turned out to be as good as the marginal people coming in off the street. So there’s that.
I can concur this occurs. It happened to me and I also have inside knowledge.
It's ridiculous to say they don't affirmative action hire to a high degree. When I came into Express there were 100 people in the initial training class for the first few days and then we are broken into smaller groups. Out of the 100 it was 75% black and a mix of 25% white and Hispanic.
I've referred friends to the job that have been hired over the past few years and they say that the ratio is almost exactly the same out of classes of 100 on the Express front line. I also urge them to say they are Hispanic as I did when I applied or likely never would have been hired.
So blacks are 14% of the population or so and are consistently 80% of their incoming hiring classes.
Anyone who says otherwise are simply protecting THEIR privilege.
I’m a white male and I’m doing pretty good for myself.
Seems to me you want to make excuses for your shortcomings as an employee and want to blame minorities for stealing your job instead of looking in the mirror.
Funny you say that. I actually feel that you have to be YT to move up here.
