As a part of cost restructuring and bringing back innovation most remote employees will be axed in the upcoming layoffs.
There will be a strong emphasis is moving remote work to low cost counties if talent is available.

@ 8iku + 1oMWTCh0 nobody is forcing you to RTO or WFH ... Your choice will eventually decide what projects you work on.
Tired of those brown nosers really.
Innovation is not going to happen sitting at home. Illumina needs newer ideas now more than ever.
If your work can be done from home it is mostly elbow grease work. There is a place for that and WFH is just fine.
@OP, Don't assume that remote workers work fewer hours. Working long hours and showing a red status on Teams will not transform the company. It is important to observe people's work ethic, team-support and style, regardless of whether they are remote or in-office. If you observe. You will soon realize that people who send emails outside of their business hours, cheking for updates frequently, trying to be smarter than anyone else are not the most productive or effective employees. Research shows working less makes you more productive.
Many remote workers in IT are moonlighting and have very low productivity. It would make sense to axe those employees and protect hard working and diligent employees.
Lots of dead weight. People who really understand NGS were laid off.

There’s definitely fat in many parts. Layoff decision makers are not aware of where fat is. Leaders are trying to protect their own domains.
I haven't heard this at all, where is this coming from?
apparently push from new CEO .. to trim fat and reduce cost.
Are you referring to Illumina or in general? Most departments at Illumina are working remote. Where did you hear about potential upcoming layoff?
