Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Would HR take a volunteer ?

I didn’t get laid off this last round. I’m in VCG but not in retail. I was really hoping for a package. Has any one ever attempted to contact HR to see if that was an option? I would rather get some severance instead of just leaving with only a PTO payout.

@ac I spoke with my manager but I don’t think he gets much say. My band 5 leader is kind of an a--hole too

@dw more packages, but rumored to be less lucrative.

HR is the last person you consult with as they are fully aligned with these
layoffs , work with your manager instead.

I am not sure why they dont offer a volunteer reduction offer to the entire company. Let the ones that wanna leave leave (me being one) and then work with the ones that are left.

There will be more packages coming later this year as the company looks to turn employees into contractors. Many corporate employees will get a choice of a package or new employment much like 2017 Infosys move for IT. Just ask any B5. They have been working on this plan for months.

I think it's very risky to make it known you want to leave. It's very simple for them to terminate you immediately with no package. From their perspective you're a security risk.

It worked for me, but seems to be highly dependent on how you ask, timing and whether your band 5 or only HR & higher ups have input to the list. I worked hard on the ask. Phrasing it as “Put me on the list” is received much differently than “I’m considering retirement in the coming months, but I’m open to accelerating the timeline if it helps the business make tough decisions”

No. They’ll gladly accept your resignation. But they’re not going to pay you to go.

Good news: there will be another layoff soon!

Bring it up to your band 5. In person, or on direct call. Maybe just paranoid, but I wouldn’t want that conversation appearing in Gemini Notes from a Google Meet.

I sent an email to HR today but i am union. I asked to be included in the next VSP offering because I am looking to leave. So I asked them about what steps can be followed.

there will be more layoffs soon enough just do a sh---y job and you may get picked. asking for it unless they are asking for volunteers is risky they could make ur life more miserable

Do you have a good relationship with your boss? Do not send this to Hr. You can drop a line to your boss about putting you on a rif list if they end up having to lay off. Connecting HR with this inquiry will not result well.

@OP speak to a Band 5 or higher Manager and self-nominate for the next force reduction.

Yes.. called Self Nomination.

I was RIF'd 3 years once O self nominated.

Admittedly a long career but doesn't hurt.

Just frame it in such a way that you are still 100% in game and career transition opportunities to consider
