Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

XLT has not addressed CES Results

I hear some managers are addressing with local teams and the results are bad. Why hasn’t c-suite addressed it? Do you think they are waiting for a TH? I would think some short-term communication from the top would really help clear things up and keep everyone aligned on improving the company

“ The ELT is planning to use the average people at lowest costs.” - this makes me laugh.

@ej, what is "G3", when is it coming, and how will it make us real money?

@zy what did you expect? I didn’t attend. Sponsored by office of DIO. A culture conversation following MW relaunching the simplified Chevron Way. Just from that you know it would be a waste of time. I’m surprised people even dialed in. We got real work to do.

@mg Though they did claim we asked for a less nice approach directly in the CES results two years ago.

Attended that “culture conversation” this week, and it was the first time anybody has said aloud in a townhall setting with possibly thousands of people dialed in and talk about how it was a sh---y year and the CES results show it.

Not sure what the LT will do with the feedback, likely nothing.

I can't honestly remember a positive CES result, dating back at least 10 years now. Euphemism has been, "CES identified areas of opportunity". Year-in and year-out, the excuse is always, "we're going through transition/layoffs/new organization, results will improve once all these are settled. Funny, for at least a decade now, we've always been in one of those three categories.

They won't. They will just say that it was expected. Literally have no accountability, they don't care.

@OP
I agree with you with everything except your statement, “We can only afford the best at lowest cost.”
The ELT is planning to use the average people at lowest costs.
The majority of managers from 1st line to senior, cannot manage the people below them so why pay for highly skilled people when they do not have the bandwidth up maximize their output

The CES results were bad for two consecutive halves before I left last year. Was told it was just situational due to layoffs and no action needed - they would recover once reorg completed. Interesting to see they remain depressed.

Has the LT heard of Marie Antoinette?

@ej sounds like a receipt for success! More likely abysmal failure. MW took his eyes off the road playing celebrity. Lack of competent bench at the helm will just accelerate value destruction. Both for shareholders and employees.

My supervisor presented a very limited overview last week: only showing the top 3 and bottom 3 categories for our team. Pretty low scores, and seemed to suggest enterprise wide they fell dramatically. But No details on comments, comparison to previous years scores, etc. my sense was they’re pushing to front line supervisors to have some theater of caring, but no interest at all from LT in the results - writing it off as unhappy spoiled children.

Opposite view - CES is being ignored, only 1st level mgrs too handle. CVX has been like a family that got bloated. Now its merit only and direct in your face management. We can only afford the best at lowest cost. Treat like a start-up. Only keep performers. This is survival mode for CVX 2033. Even Board knows it. Make cash, acquisition cheaper than self performance, shed albatross assets and one offs. Lowest cost survives. Top is indeed search for the next thing. Unfortunately, Strategic group very inexperienced. Consultants no help as they are clueless right now. So enterprise needs lean and mean. Expect some very big changes both inside and industry on an accelerated business. Its not just outsourcing and AI. G3 is coming and that's where we will all make money but need a solid base to do so.

MW said privately that the CES was going to be bad for a few years due to upheavel with AI and Engine so it would be run for employees benefit only - no expensive analysis.

They heard you, and are formulating the next round of layoffs, because you asked for it.

It was asked in the S&T townhall and they gave a non answer and never really addressed them or said when they would.

Only the front line supervisors are going to get the blame. The mid- and top deck remain clueless, er faultless.
