Thread regarding CVS layoffs

There's never an upside

I'm getting really tired of seeing no benefits from good results and shouldering all consequences of the opposite. When everything was great, there was no upside for employees. Yet as soon as things started to fail, the downside was layoffs. And it keeps happening.

@bf We want to reward you with this stretch assignment for additional exposure with leadership. You should feel honored that we would entrust you with such a project in addition to your ongoing job responsibilities. This opportunity is high visibility and you will work well into the evenings shouldering the full load with no true support (although we will pretend as if we are in team meetings with higher ups) at the chance that maybe one day (years later) your contributions and worth will be recognized, and you may be rewarded with a promotion and 10% raise in a role drastically underpaid relative to market average. Ummm no thanks.

The problem is that CVS doesn't reward hard work, or going above and beyond. If you show up everyday, and are loyal, dedicated and you bust your onions, there's no reward for that. It's just expected, and called "your job". And then instead of any good raise/rating, you're "rewarded" with more work for zero extra money. However, the extra responsibilities are framed almost like a promotion, because "You're doing such a great job, and we need someone we can trust to get the job done right". Unfortunately that doesn't pay the bills.

The reality is the @OP is right. When things are great only the executives prosper, and the little guy at the bottom gets nothing. And when things go south, CVS just looks for a scapegoat to protect all the C-suites. A scapegoat in the form of "sorry but we all gotta make sacrifices for the good of the company".
