Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Nawani's data team has been hit today

Some MD's have saved their bootlickers by moving them around to other people under Nawani but data team members n Markets and Banking and International has been hit. That's all I know.. Not sure who or how many or what titles

@197 Nawani built his empire and towers long after the 2010's - he did it under Jane's watch. When Japan Mehta was booted out for little to no fault of his, the EDO (then called the Chirf Data Office or CDO) was around 300-400 people. Max it may have been 450ish, many of whom were inherited from the ICG data office after ICG was disbanded. It is Nawani, and his boss Tim Ryan, that allowed people under them to go mad with recruiting. Every MD/D and their grandmother suddenly couldn't do any work unelss they had 10-12 people reporting to them

Whether Nawani encouraged this or no..I dunno. But he certainly didn't say no either else the hiring couldn't have gone up like that. Not to mention the 70-80 million $ SoW given to their alma mater PwC (cancelled since then I believe?) to bring in consultants

@OP Is this part of Citibank collapsing its 13 layers of executive management to a more manageable 8 layers?

Is there any recognition of the fact that this management bloat was the direct and inevitable result of 2000-10s "globalization" and offshoring and the army of H1Bs?

Will Citi try to maintain the same offshore footprint with a thinner management structure?

Yeah. I don't get why he has so many people. Enough with moving people around to look like one is accomplishing great things. My management team should have been gone long ago under himm Fake unnecessary meetings and paperwork, SOPs, coffee chats, potlucks, PPTs (EDO lives and breathes PowerPoints), and managers stealing other people' work are the norm. It's toxic, chaotic and no one cares that they are on a fine line of another consent order or reg fines. Idk how they get by with this 🎪 circus. 😆

Much of his empire is still intact. Check out teams of his directs - risk report data lead, markets data lead, banking&international data lead (by far the single largest team under Nawani)
If this guy's empire has to be properly pruned, then the next entire round if layoff's must focus entirely on the towers that he's built. They need to be demolished ruthlessly

not Data or tech, but our department was hit last week, even though our head said everyone was safe after January layoffs (NYC). how can we possibly trust those people?!
at the same time I see soooo many new names located in Canada, Mexico, India. it's so demoralizing. I wonder how soon those of us who don't have luxury of waiving their good-buy in response to a request to train foreigners, will start sabotaging

Yes, it's true. Data has been hit hard... I know a C15 and two C14's let go. I believe Tech has also been hit. Don't know the ratio
