China graduates approximately 1.3 million engineers annually, outnumbering the United States' 130,000 to 140,000 graduates by a 10-to-1 ratio. This talent gap is shifting the balance of global technological and geopolitical power.

It's 2026 China is leading almost all technologies imagine what would Dell offer them.

At the 2009 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Dell CEO Michael Dell asked Vladimir Putin how tech companies could help expand Russia’s IT sector. Putin aggressively rebuffed the offer, famously responding: "We don't need help. We are not invalids. We do not have limited capacity."

Key details of the exchange:
The Context: Putin had just finished a 40-minute speech on monetary policy when Dell took the microphone to pitch IT assistance.

The Backlash: The audience in the room was reportedly stunned by Putin’s combative tone.
The Additional Dig: Putin went on to state that Russian scientists were known for their highly respected software, not hardware, implying that building computers was a less impressive feat.

Remember a few years ago the company decided to lessen its reliance on China for parts and services? When I left the company they were well on their way to that goal. Maybe they figured MD not the best person to bring into that discussion.

@OP China already owns Dell. All of the parts are made in China anyway. And because Dell does not have any innovation or solutions in AI, MD would be dead weight on Air Force One.

@ar

That was from 2016

There is no real equivalent to those folks this time around.

It seems like this time around it was companies with heavy direct Chinesse presence or massive, immediate and direct trade deals.

The perceived value of Dell was perhaps covered off by :

Ginni Rometty (IBM): Represented legacy technology and artificial intelligence.

Chuck Robbins (Cisco): Represented hardware and networking.

Dell Technologies is a commodities vendor, NOT a relevant player (trailblazer) in AI, Robotics or future high tech quantum computing transformations. Sorry but we aren't as important as MD and our leadership say we are.
