Early Retirement Offers

I'm 50-something years old, 20-something years of Ford direct employment, falling under the GRP. Contributory to my pension since the first paycheck I could do so.

I'd go tomorrow if the rules let me retire early, but I'm not quite 55.

Any rumors of early retirement packages?

@a3 I previously worked for him at Steelcase. He was a kind guy who, in this instance, seemed to be in over his head.

Take it from someone that was forced out in 2022 (I was in my mid to late 50’s at the time) and is past 60 now. If you think you can find another job, start a soft search and if the ‘right’ offer comes along, take it. It’s either that or just stay until they finally make you an offer you can’t refuse.

I say this because I’ve had three jobs in the four years I left 4, was let go from all three (2 under went reorgs and the last one way underperformed in 2025 against projections) . Each time it took me at least 6 + months to find something , and this time around it seems like it might take a year. Job market is very bad now, so no matter how much you hate it there just stay unless you secure a better deal elsewhere.

@OP it does not work like that these days. A package will not bridge those gaps for you.

Ford will offer you a ticket out the door if you want to retire.

Oh but rising stock prices at Ford = $10 to 13 and then back to 11. AI or no AI. Something to be proud of eh? Gotta give those apple cobblers some kind of incentive...besides salary. I guess they'll take what they can get. Otherwise they'd still be in Cupertino.

Yes ago, they would add years to your age and years to pension as an incentive to retire early, like 3+3. I doubt if we will ever see that again now that firing people is a corporate sport resulting in rising stock prices because of "AI investments".

remember, when you are cut/retire, take your HSA with you. Fidelity (I don't work for them) offers HSA accounts for free. you can invest in whatever you want. I am in QQQ and VOO. take the HRA and use it first, let the HSA earn for the future.

No more packages. They are waiting for you to wear down and leave on your own.

Make your own rules.

I’m Also early 50s, 25+ years direct at Ford. GRP eligible. Almost zero contribution to GRP because I realized early on I should save outside of GRP for my later years. Always maxed 401k and also have a sizable taxable brokerage account (independent of Ford). No mortgage no debt. Kids college paid off. A person doesn’t need to wait until 55 (other people’s rules) if you saved diversely and early.

When Ford does offer retirement packages , they are offered to employees who are retirement eligible. The employee needs to either be age 55 years old with at least 10 years of service , or any age with 30 years of service. Unfortunately, you will need to work another 5 years to be eligible.
