Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

I was proud to join

Now it's just been a futile, sour, disappointing experience. Many of us are genuinely good at our jobs. Management at every level above us is not. What a waste of talent.

Prioritizing shareholders instead of patients is what broke the camel’s back for me.

@OP I remember being genuinely proud to join and even buying my own merch. That’s changed!

Many of the experienced people who built strong cross-functional relationships have retired, left, or been laid off. What’s replaced that is a gap in institutional knowledge and less willingness to listen to it.

Decisions are increasingly made unilaterally, without a full understanding of downstream impact on other teams or on patients (well, either that or they simply don’t care). You see it in the rework, the handoffs, and the feedback that goes nowhere.

The ethical and moral people trying to do the right thing are stuck, while the ones who nod along and say what leadership wants to hear keep moving up the ranks.

It’s literally like a grieving process to watch something you’ve spent years building be destroyed.

@b5 It's 100% too late. The board are rent-seeking and extracting all they can out of the gig. Senior leaders have followed suit and have just made it their career stepping stone before they move on to other companies, hence the high senior leadership churn. The level of c-suite turn is unprecedented and is clearly a sign they disagree with Geoff and the corrupt board's direction.

If this were not the case, Geoff would have been fired several quarters ago. It is sad that we're witnessing the reality of en masse corporate corruption in a once great company.

@b4

I hate to say it. It’s too late.

I too, was proud to be part of Medtronic, but no longer. Senior management is terrible and is going to drag the company down. I truly believe in our mission statement but the morale around our company is at an all time low! We need new leadership before it’s too late!
