Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Oh Great... Another external leader brought in!

Another new Chief Strategy Officer coming in from the outside to replace the last external head of Strategy who was anything but strategic. And shocker... he worked at Bain at one time. How many former consultants do we need? All these external hires have ki-led our culture, stifled upward mobility in the org, added cost, and add another person who just does not get what made CDW great (at one time).

@15b Wow. No one on one meetings with direct reports, no staff call with the leaders and going end-around to skip levels. Sounds toxic. Why do people stay and work for "leaders" like that?
Do we even read the engagement survey results anymore? Or is it just for the leader to see what their people think of them and do nothing to address it?

"I don't know you personally but you must be a total DB to your people and to others to get this much press on this site!"

LOL.

This is now the Drory thread, ha. Hope you are reading this, MD. Its never too late to repair damage, but low-key haven't seen so much negative press for one individual since Sona, and in a mostly invisible strategy role. I don't know you personally but you must be a total DB to your people and to others to get this much press on this site!

@16r Wow. "Leaders" that don't even know to have consistent meetings with their direct reports should not be allowed to lead people. I don't care if CDW wants to give them a title of SVP like MD has, but ge-z, don't let them be in charge of actual people.

Isn't this basic stuff? How can CDW be as large as it is and let stuff like this take place?

@15b It's not just MD. Not meeting with direct reports, emergencies dropping out of the blue, missed deadlines. It's all over the company. I've held a few different roles in different areas of the company and had the same experience with more than one "leader" in the last few years.

I used to work directly for MD. It was like he was never even taught how to be a basic leader. Did not believe in or have time for one on one meetings (with his own direct reports!), did not hold a staff call with his leaders together, went around me and other leaders all the time to speak directly with our direct reports without any heads up / warning and then we had to clean up the mess he left. Stuff that a year one Sales Manager knew about leading a team and/or people was foreign to him. Not sure if he has gotten any better since then. For the sake of CDW, I hope so.

In hindsight, I am not sure Sona accomplished anything in her time with CDW. For sure hiring MD and AR only hurt the company. I think the past 4 years have got to be the worst 4 year period in the history of the company. Our stock price backs that statement up. Our engagement survey results back that statement up (notice we don't hear much about the results anymore). Our general Coworker sentiment backs that statement up. Our layoffs back that statement up.
Our continued hiring of consultants and external VPs/SVPs are both proof of and the reason we have no vision or direction.

@OP Drory is a giant nothing-burger. Anand is the tofu version. If you were hired by Sona, you pretty much su-k.

@eq How the he-l have Directors like Koczera managed to survive when all our best and brightest on his teams have left for positions with Google or Health Care Organizations, or for different departments within CDW, as far away from him as possible?

The most analog person at the company is now running digital. At least we getting a good laugh about it.

If I learned anything working at CDW it’s that hiring ex-consultants to run departments never works out

The comment said that he was fired from his post. Not that he was fired from the company. It’ll be fun to watch Drory accomplish a whole lot of nothingness with digital.

@es Wait, MD was not fired yet? Why would they name his replacement and not let him go in the same email?

@eq Respectively disagree. We still have plenty of great home grown leaders that have been here a while that could do so much more if they did not have new/external senior leaders thinking they know better.

Newsflash - Just because you worked for a consultant doesn't mean you know everything.

@OP another “transformation officer”. From Bain no less. From the department of the redundancy department- care to wager if there will be cuts and-or another reorg? With the worst kept secret of BK finally shown the door Q2 changes will be in something. Watch out May!

@dp - He wasn’t fired! They just replaced him and put him in a different role he su-ks at. Not sure why he still works here!

Who else are we going to get? All the good leaders already left. Anyone still here is too stupid to lead.

Michael Drory, the head of tragedy, fired from his post. Good riddance.

At least we’re getting rid of deadweight SVPs. So happy to hear that BK is on his way out. DV suffered horribly under him and will do better broken up under leaders who actually understand Cloud and Data Services.

I've been here 6 years and still can't figure out how these Execs keep their jobs making awful strategic decisions that have consistently lowered shareholder value in a time where IT is central to any customer's business. Somebody has to have some incriminating pictures of the Board members or they are just as clueless. Time to be moving on.
