I can say with full confidence these have been the worst three years of my career.

I’ll claim Zero as my moniker. It’s not as sticky as the other monikers, but I have a sense of humor, so I’ll embrace it.
Hey, our hero Zero is back! I can't imagine being such a brittle snowflake.
Try to get a job in the Art Department, which is safe. They roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs while holding hands. Should be much less miserable.
OP what has got you down specifically?
SAS is known to employ a large number of people on the spectrum who have a hard time empathizing with others
Please, no need to disparage leadership like that.
@OP
You're not alone. Some people at SAS don't understand working under the threat of another shoe falling, and the impact on productivity, mental health, etc. Some people are just trying to hold on until they can retire, or their kids graduate from college or aren't on their insurance anymore. And SAS is known to employ a large number of people on the spectrum who have a hard time empathizing with others. And... over the past few years the "old guard" has largely left the company, and a lot of people who could, that is those with portable skills, so some of the ones left behind have survivor bias and can't internalize they're only employed because "there but for the grace of God go I" is true for them.
But be ye not deceived... most of the people you work with every day probably have very similar feelings about working for SAS. I know I do. Some days better than others, but feeling that everything is slowly spiraling into the ground. If you've already done your cost and benefit analysis all you have left to do is act when a a better opportunity presents itself. And don't give Company Man and his sidekick here the satisfaction.
I've returned to previous jobs. But that only works when they have open positions.
You are so awesome. I bow to your greatness.
So reach out to your last job and tell them you made a mistake and would like to come back. If you made a good impression they’ll do it.
Wait let me guess that was your previous worst 2 years of your life. Preceeded by a whole bunch of previous worst times at other companies for 2 year stints.
Snarkiness aside reach out to previous companies. I’m confident I could go back to either of previous two even though it has been 15 years.
