For those that have left Macy’s what are you guys doing now? What other jobs are better than Macys? I want to leave the company but there isn’t much options for me out there. Been with the company for over 20yrs, would I be eligible for a package or anything of that form?

So it @D9 here.
Let me now be CLEAR and less kind and supportive.
Most of you are sadly stuck in retail, no growth & most likely never went to college or know what an internship is.
After 21 yrs being a DIRECTOR in corporate, i chose to leave.
What i did not include is my online store (start up) is making over $4k a month in 1 yr of starting, in addition to freelance income that pulls in $3k a momth. This also includes the freedom of life by not working at macys.
So now retail savages who cry over registers, inventory & credit card sign ups ...you want to hit back again?
Dust yourself off and find another bull sad hourly job.
@OP if you are 55 and have 15 years you get your discount for life. Otherwise, no incentives for you unless they do a mass layoff or your store is closing. 48
@d9- After reading that mess, I don’t think they made it past the 6th grade. Have your ever heard of proofreading?
@d9-Did you make it past the 10th grade?
Morning & i will start with ...you can do this!
I did it 2 years ago (corporate)
I left...i broke, meaning i shouldnt have gotten unemployment BUT I DID!
When i UNEXPECTEDLY received FREE medical benefits from the state (NY), I transferred all medical records. Upon doing so i realized i literally had a mental decline from work, my doctor submitted a letter to unemployment on my behalf stating the longer i stayed at work my mental health continued to decline.
So...there's the start. You buffer your exit with a foundation: medical / food & unemployment benefits.
Regarding a new job, you mentioned 20yrs.
If you receive unemployment its 26 weeks long...NY raised our weekly maximum to $800+ a week, so even if you dont get the maximum you take the $ YOU have contributed to for the past 20yrs & you allow yourself to recouporate.
Build your budget, needs vs wants. I was more than willing to strealine my livelihood hood for a better quality of life.
I started an online store slowly & accepted some odd jobs within my first year.
What do you love, do you love animals, helping others, museums etc...many opportunities, think of it as your in the middle of a huge all inclusive hula hoop...you get to choose!
It wa the SCARIEST decision i ever made, but LIFE CHANGING. You will be cared for.
I wish you the best health & happiness.
Now get busy dreaming and planning!
Xx
Are you corporate or store? Makes a difference and sadly, how old you are. If there's a major hospital or university near you, check that out. Customer service skills are transferable.
