Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Feel like a loser getting laid off

I kept asking how I was doing despite having 1 bad mid year and now I just got let go. They just kept quiet for no reason and then told me its over.

@qt yeah, i was 16 months away from retirement. lost a ton in both pension and 401k and they cut me because of pension, in november 2024 so i lost the december bump. I felt like a loser and still have anger issues about it. it's their fault, not yours.

@q2
This is my story exactly, and the most egregious part is that I was ~a year away from retirement eligibility. Not only did I get sc--wed out of any bonus payable in 2026, but I lost the huge pension acceleration that comes with either age 55 or 30 years, whichever comes first. If this was your case too, I hope to God you did not sign the waiver. I had busted my a$$ for this company, and all they cared about was the cost save of my pension/salary.

I wish you and yours a very Happy Easter. I'm sure you're as glad as I am to be rid of the toxicity, and I suspect you are likely in much better health now as well, both physical and mental.

This is the reality actually that happens to most engineers.
The only way out of it is to prey and please your LL4, I know they had to select the numbers , if the manager is not there.

@q2 it's a sure bet that your LL2 is enjoying that bonus money you should have gotten...

Was one of the many 50+ yrs old pension eligible people targeted for separation last year. I've always known how toxic the place was and was just trying to make it to my full 30. I was not the coasting, head down type but rather every day giving my best. That was likely my worst decision and should of just tried to hide like many of my peers who are desperately trying to play the Ford game. I was devastated and with time came to understand the PTSD type of thing that goes on when Ford decides they are done with you and want to leave your confidence in shreds. Time away from the toxic environment has really shown a light on what they slowly did to my life and health. When this year's bonus came around and I was denied even a penny for all the work they demanded I deliver early because they were planning on getting rid me, it was a gut punch. Work that was lauded and widely thanked by the org, to then ignored was a reminder of how terrible these people are. So, all I can say is good luck on your healing journey. In time as your humanity returns, you'll see with fresh eyes what Ford is all about, and its not pretty, nor remotely normal to how many other companies work.

Right before Easter? Do you really want to work for people that would do that to you? Sorry to hear this, the company is sadistic at times.

@a3 I feel sorry for you. Nobody will say “poor them” because they fear for their position. Many people who were let go somehow stood up against the wrong doings here. Please don’t spread rumors about them.

@de

Where did you hear this? Last thing we need is Indian scammer H1Bs wiping their rears with building code regulations and pretending like they know what they're doing. Hiring their friends and family then having things explode because of poor work.

@a3 funny how there is no one to give JF and the BOD low performers rating. I always tell people look at the source. Company has not been doing good since the spring of 2017.

So the company only let go good people this time around?

@OP Sorry to hear it. Take a beat and know that you can do better than Ford. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

When you are choosing your direction, ignore all the talking heads and trust your gut.

BTW in case you missed it Farley and his posse are lobbying to bring in foreign workers to fill US roles such as electricians and mechanics en masse. One big con.

I know it does not seem like it at the moment but I assure you this is a good blessing in disguise. It is amazing how many better organizations and true leaders there are with other companies. All of us that were released in the past are SO MUCH HAPPIER. Better times are right around the corner for you. Best of luck to you.

You are definitely NOT the loser. It's Ford's loss. I was let go last year, and while I was very upset at the time, I'm so happy to be away from the toxic environment that was bringing me down. Although I didn't know it at the time, Ford did me a favor. My health has also improved significantly, and I do not miss Ford one iota. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

Getting let go in automotive happens quite often. It's the weather channel - literally no big deal. Getting laid off from Ford is more common then you think. It's almost a badge you can wear that you've done time in the $hit show that it's turned into. Especially if you are a decent person and came out of it with good attitude.

Ford doesn't deserve the privilege of bei g the reason you lower your confidence. Don't give them that much real estate in your head.

Sorry to hear that. Everyone I know that is no longer with the company tells me how much better it is on the outside. I'm sure it will take some adjustment but you'll feel better eventually. This place is pretty toxic, there's real value in moving on from toxic places; I've been there before and I know how much better it feels once you're eventually away from the bad memories. Best of luck to you.

I feel bad for you. It is their loss don’t let it get to you. Don’t ever buy a ford or let anyone you know buy one. That is the one thing you can do. Nothing wrong with doing that, everyone else is only buying it because of the company discount or they would not either. Ford cars lose value very fast due to the quality vs competitors that is the ugly truth. Force them to make better cars.

I guess they decided not to do it on April 1st thinking you would think it (the termination )was an April fool joke. Did you get a package?

The handful of layoffs in my dept the past month were all low performers for years with zero improvement. And nobody has said 'poor them' since they brought it on themselves.
