What is your manager saying?

@aq with CrowdStrike Falcon you aren’t downloading files off your laptop to a usb drive. If you have personal information on your laptop get it off now while you can. iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
@dx "We suspect on-prem team will be absorbed by OCI."
That happened last year when SUNW got reorged into OCI
@OP My team had a meeting this week to discuss the layoffs in Orlando and Colorado Springs. Was basically told to keep our heads down and continue working. Organizational changes are in progress. We suspect on-prem team will be absorbed by OCI. Possibly more layoffs after that is completed. Tough to remain positive.
@cd age discrimination is a real thing and happens all the time. Unfortunately it is extremely hard for the job applicant to prove it.
Retiring at 65 was established when people died in the late 60s and early 70s. We live a lot longer now and should be able to work longer but that is just not the case. Lots of talent and experience being wasted.
To the people who down vote this remember that you will get old too. Nothing can prevent it.
@aq "When you get your termination paperwork, sign your waiver of claims, and file for unemployment the same day."
check the laws in your state too. You might not be eligible to collect unemployment until the end of the severance period.
"Then go get yourself a job with a company who treats their employees with humility (and better pay) - they are plentiful."
Umm... WHUT?
@a2 Each month Oracle do layoffs, not as those announced my the media. I know that there are plenty of people scared about being fired.
While no official statement presented, I think that nothing will happen.
@aq Everything depends on your age, past 50 YO it will be so difficult to get a new job.
Mine told me that those are only rumours, nothing to take care of -yet-
Oh, weird to hear there are managers who actually talk about this. Mine is behaving as nothing is happening. Business as usual. It's sickening.
@a2 True. I heard same
@aq doesn't really feel like jobs are 'plentiful' right now buddy
Having been in the position, I can assure you your manager doesn't know. There are times (for small RIFs) where your manager has been involved in the decision process. But these large RIFs are decided at the EVP level with HR and a number metrics gleaned from various sources. Your manager will get training about a week before, but they will not have a list of names until a day or two before it happens. Affected employees will get a simple "important business update" invite (15 minutes length) in their calendar the night before. You'll be read a script - some managers will spare you the script and treat you like a human. After the meeting they will input some information including information about where you want your termination paperwork sent and a few moments later your notebook will be locked. Tip: Disconnect from wireless the moment your call ends, that gives you some time to remove any personal information from your company notebook and wipe it before returning it. When you get your termination paperwork, sign your waiver of claims, and file for unemployment the same day. Then go get yourself a job with a company who treats their employees with humility (and better pay) - they are plentiful.
Mine has openly acknowledged that they're going to happen, and that our team won't be affected.
even your unvested RSU will be considered as cost cutting item.
Claims not to know, and I believe they were being straight with me.
Most managers aren't going to say anything substantive because if word gets back to senior management that they blabbed, then best case scenario they get frozen out of future meetings, worst case scenario they get fired. The most they can do is acknowledge something's happening and vaguely suggest that you try to prepare yourself.
Yes. Manager actually openly talked about layoffs. Encouraged people to have something lined up.
everyone knows about their reports layoff status for sure unless he/she is to be laidoff
Your manager will only know it the day before as will his/her manager.
Mine said he’s in the dark, as is his manager. Our group has been hit may times in the past so he said unless they eliminate our function, there’s nothing left to cut.
Plan for the worst, and hope for the best…
Manager himself is worried he’ll be laid off 🤣🤣
All I heard from managers is that changes are coming by the end of the month.
Own one say they don't know anything. I am not so sure but taking their word for it. I spoke to another that said they sent lists and the rifs will be starting soon. They said 100% will happen, thousands by end of month. They are aiming for 20%, what's that, 35,000 approx? That's what's coming and it's that severe. Shocking
