Massive skill gap with BTC teams

At first I thought the posts here about BTC were exaggerated or just people being salty. But after working with a few of their devs, I get it now. And I’ve been hearing the same thing from multiple other teams.

A lot of them just don’t seem to know how to code. Things that should take a week end up taking months. Constant blockers, missed messages, excuses, and everything needs tons of guidance. But they’re good at talking in meetings and making it sound like progress is happening...

I noticed they started using chatgpt. It would be great if that actually sped things up, but they don’t really understand the code they generated. It just helps them pretend they are working. It's really a scam.

crazy thing to me is that managers don’t want to acknowledge it. Is it even worth bringing it up?

@1be believe me I do NOT want to visit your shitehole country, but your managers keep asking and begging us to visit, and we are chided if we don’t, so yep we have to cruise through there and make an appearance. I’ll be in and out ASAP.
What would be even better is if YOU stopped visiting Houston, zero value added by those expensive trips. And get your managers to stop begging us over as well.

to all americans visiting india for corporate tourism — keep your soul dead, patgetic, loathsome Houston culture out of our country, come in do your job, take your photos and leave. You add zero value in Houston and negative value when you ‘visit’ BTC. It might make you feel superior, because you are only your egos.

Quite a few of the guys in btc are really good. They want learn and are a pleasure to work with. But there are others that aren't very good and dont respond to coaching. So its largely the same as every country I've worked in.... good and bad mixed up together. I dont care for the negativity, there isn't a choice about it, its happening. If you work with them then you can do good things and make a difference, but you have to work hard with them to do it.

@j2 Never seen an engineer at EM do any of those things. Conversations I’ve had would have been much different if they did.

In fact, I’m convinced that engineers in large oil companies (EM included) are incapable of reading or interpreting data period. Some of the things I’ve heard many of you say over the years have been…interesting. I’ll be happy to provide examples if you like. Ready to be embarrassed? If not, then don’t ask.

@ds Sure. If the output is the same, paying less of course makes sense. But in my experience working with BTC, the output hasn’t been the same. it’s actually noticeably worse, sometimes even negative.

I’m obviously generalizing. I’ve worked closely with 10+ BTC devs, and that’s been my experience. Maybe the strong ones are tied up elsewhere and I’m just getting unlucky.

My bigger gripe is with management pushing the narrative that we’re saving money, when in practice it often costs more once you factor in rework and wasted time.

BTC employees are still better than the fat d-mb Americans on Houston campus. Most of them don’t shower and stink.The others are depressed pychotics who do nothing but pretend doing made up work, gossip and coffee chats.

The fact is we are seeing immense benfits of BTC and hence the continued growth. The overheads in Houston are insane, less than 20% of employees return the value of the salary they are paid so just stop this BS about blaming people in a country oceNs away. No one cares there. it is the most happiest, fun, content and enjoyable plakce to be in the company at this time.

Everything. And if they can't get it copilot to read the pdf document in edge they are completely sc--wed.
