Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Not that bad

I have to say despite knowing I'll be downvoted into oblivion, this place is fine. Good pay, decent work. If you're miserable here, you'd probably be miserable anywhere.

Translation: I'm so happy at my new company that I come here to troll my old company with fake posts because I'm miserable and have no life.

I’m happier after I moved to Shell. There is less good ole boy going on and the level incompetence and disorganization across the org is so high that you can rank high with little effort. Similar pay as well

Take a look at OP's post. Any time you see a high positive / high negative vote, you know that HR has been sending in their flying monkeys to 'influence' the vote.

@vs, The obvious problem with this form of indoctrination is that those traits can be found in all the races. So it is an extremely racist and damaging concept to only attribute traits which are common to exceptional individuals from many demographics, cultures and races to a single race, not to mention counterproductive to progress. But so many practices that those on the far left endorse are, so none are surprising.

in the seattle public school they teach children that
individualism, objectivity, and perfectionism are white supremacist traits

think long and hard about each one of those traits
for example, perfectionism means trying to do the best job you can
we also call that professionalism but apparently that has gone by the wayside

Ahh, the usual HR response - "if you're unhappy here, you'll be unhappy everywhere". @pr+1 is correct. I wasn't here in 2010, but in the time I have worked here, the culture has definitely changed from relishing challenge to "just getting by". All the high-flyers have, you might say, flown the coop.

If you were to take OP's comment and time-travel it to around 2010, OP would be viewed as an under-achieving, under-motivated malcontent. It's really telling how far the company culture has sunk that their comment in 2026 is viewed as something positive. Even a couple years ago OP would have been branded a "quiet quitter".

There are worse fates in life than picking up a healthy paycheck twice a month, having solid health and dental insurance, and just rolling with the gross incompetence of the upper echelons at Chevron. Exploration is already ditching their new structure, after who knows how many well-paid experts worked for who knows how many months to come up with the 2025 version. Maybe more of that will come in 2026. Do I care? Not really. Am I surprised by such lack of direction? No, I lost faith in the C suite long ago. I choose to stay because of my own lack of inertia and my first sentence.

What are you smoking!!! Not too bad
You have to be high or a member of friends and family.
The place is diabolical compared to just 5 years ago.

@cp is spot on. HR and IT at Chevron are treated like sh-t, and not without reason, but most of the reasons are the fault of horrible senior leadership while the rank and file bear the brunt of the criticism and consequences

@dw
and there is the cheapening of companies
and the replacement of caucasians with indians

there are so many positive things to look forward to nowadays
our future is so bright
oh wait, that was the 80s, my bad

Oil & Gas industry is shrinking and everyone regardless the company is playing Game of Thrones, people can become ruthless and back stabbers to survive. It won’t be better than here, and there are way worse.

@OP Just to keep it short here. Unless you worked in a high performing growth company (like CVX in the past 2000's) and some of our competitors, you are clueless.
The moral here is on par with a company that just lost a Trillion $.

Like many things in life, I think this depends a lot on context.

I have worked other places, and working at Chevron in IT is absolutely dire. Zero clue, contempt and disdain for the function, and ineffectual and inadequate leaders. It absolutely isn’t like that at other companies that value their IT and Data teams.

I see colleagues in other functions that are at least somewhat valued, appreciated and protected, with leaders that have at least half a clue — and they seem significantly happier.

What do you know.
HR or upper management does have some spare time.
It is not like they have any useful skills to develop.

Not true. I was content until the most recent layoffs. It has gotten worse since I left per my former coworkers. The culture that used to retain employees is now revolting employees. This shift in culture is the saddest part. They have lost so many good employees in past few years. More employees to lose in coming year.

@aj, Actually I have worked elsewhere, and the last sentence is also true. Many of you think that almost everywhere else doesn't have these problems (rudderless, no strategy, etc. etc) but you're wrong and have no idea. Go check it out for yourself and see.
You're welcome.

So close to an actually salient point until the last sentence. Pay is good, there’s work to keep busy with, it is legitimately fix if you maintain a work/life balance. But don’t victim blame and gaslight, it is ABSOLUTELY worse here than elsewhere and the blame is with management. Completely rudderless with no strategy is infinitely worse than someone just executing a strategy badly.
