Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Really this bad?

I’m honestly having some regret about taking this job, especially after finding this forum. I wish I had come across these comments before accepting the offer, but here I am. Is it really as bad as people describe?

I started in January and my role is remote, but based on what I’m reading, it sounds like that could change at any time. I also don’t really feel like part of the team yet. I assumed it was just because I’m still new, but now I’m starting to wonder if this is just the culture here.

Is this how most people feel? Is everyone just quietly checked out?

Gonna be a lot worse after 1PM when Mr. Rogers spells it out for you. Don't get burned at the fireside chat. Like how he picked Arlington to be as far away from the majority of the footprint.

@OP If you are located at least 35+ miles outside of one of the major market cities as a remote employee, you will stay as a remote employee. The employees that need to be more concerned are those individuals who are just outside of the 35 mile limit.

But here's the bigger problem, the major market offices of Atlanta, Charlotte, Richmond, Orlando, Raleigh, Wilson, and Winston-Salem, none of these offices have space available for more bodies. They spaces look like they can hold additional people, however the Building fire codes set maximum capacity (occupant load) based on the building’s size, use (e.g., assembly, office), and available exits to ensure safe egress.

Capacities are determined by dividing floor area by a code-defined factor or by the maximum allowed per exit width. Common limits include 1 person per 5–7 sq ft for assembly or 100 sq ft for offices.

@fv This should be common sense but people can't or won't accept it. You picked a career that exists solely to reap money from as many people as possible as often as possible. You laugh at the client fees as you wonder to yourself why isn't thid a joyful respectful work environment?

@et Remaining RTO complainers will cease to be heard soon enough. Teammates will comply quietly or be without a position. Compensation requires actual work—not 'WeLl I lIvE 35.0000000000001 mIlEs AwAy".

I will say this Board is a lot quieter than it was a year or even two years ago. The outsourcing and layoffs have done a great job at getting rid of a large majority of the folks who could not make the pivot to the challenges of being a large bank, could only reminisce about the good old days of their failing Banks, or did more complaining than working. Now most of the complaining is around RTO and that has even reduced now that folks are in the office.

My team is fine. The leadership is complete a-s. But I have learned to stop caring as much as leadership and pay it forward to them.

As long as policies aren't broken and procedures are followed, what can leadership do? Especially when they don't even know both company policy and even the most basic process of our department? Lol

Check your work style in WD. If it has an expiration date.... I'm sorry.

Sampling bias. People don't come here to talk about how much they love their job. Your experience entirely depends on your manager, your leadership, and your coworkers.

@ae I came in as a VP, does that help? I did plenty of research but this forum never popped up until a friend pointed me here and my heart sank.

As with many places, it’s going to be team/department specific but I’ll say from personal experience even if your team is good, the overall tribalistic, us vs them culture will find a way to creep into your world. Best advice I can give is to learn, execute, and keep your head down.

And yes, most of us are checked out. It’s the culture unfortunately

@OP Who applies for a job and does zero research? AVP is not in your future.
