It’s just fine to steal time!!
Do a ten minute call. Sit in your car for an hour or more, watch everyone else go do another 10 minute call. Rinse repeat. Tech delight.

@1hr Things really went sour after IKON was brought in. We took a huge leap back when that happened because they try to run the direct division like a 1980s copier company rather than actually implementing the "digital revolution" that they keep talking about, but have no idea how to implement.

I was released from Ricoh about 2 1/2 years ago after 40 years. In hindsight, it was the best thing that could’ve happened to me. For anybody still working there, get out while you can do it on your own terms and not theirs. It’s only a matter of time before you’re gone especially if you’re an older employee.

10 years at Ricoh, finally got hit. My manager and 3 of my coworkers were also affected. We were a team of 30, 4 years ago, when they started the mass layoffs in the US. Our work was given to a certain group. But it looks like their team suffered layoffs as well. Crazy time to work at a printer company pretending to be a services company.

@w2 Yep, found this out the hard way, after 40+ years. Laid off while scammers who are able to put up their own calls, and therefore look busy, while "working" on machines that are working fine, are kept on. Because the managers manage off a spreadsheet (I Know Only Numbers), rather than investigating what is actually happening out in the field. They won't do anything because it would negatively affect the manager's own phony numbers, and affect their bonuses. It's only a matter of time until the direct division is passed off to dealers. I expect that there will be another round on or about April 1.

Time for some hard truth, Ricoh does not value as an individual. Even though the have spent decades convincing you are part of the family. You might have 30 years tenure, but they don't look at you as the sum of your contributions thru the years. Once they are done with you they are totally focused on getting you out.
I used to criticize Millennials and Gen Z for putting their personal life ahead of the job. At 5pm and there is still 1/2 hour of work, a Gen X clocks out at 5 buts stays to finish the job. Millennials on the other hand are in their car at 5:01. The truth is no matter how hard you work when your time comes no one will remember. Hard work will not keep you employed.
As Gen X if I had it to do all over again I would take the Millennial approach

I did an AI query of what Ricoh is doing. What it told me was they are getting certain dealers to acquire a certification that allows them to qualify as "direct service" for fulfilling contracts that require direct service. They are moving their business offerings to end to end solutions that can use multiple different brands hardware. They are part of joint venture to build equipment that will be labeled as different brands.
AI verified that they are definitely targeting older workers, but made it clear they were doing nothing illegal. I believe it called it a harsh strategy aimed at getting higher paid long tenured employee off the pay roll by trying to get them to quit due to poorer working conditions or by termination thru strict enforcement of minor violation.
It also mentioned the lay off strategy changed from less frequent but large RIFs to smaller but more frequent lay offs.
My advice is if you think you left in place while others are let go you are mistaken. Start looking for other opportunities now. Look into other industries not just copier repair

Stay away - Ricoh is a career ki-ler. They lure you in with a good salary, bonuses, and decent benefits, then they'll 'RIF-you to protect same old-wood, legacy, status-quo, untouchable employees.

Expect layoffs in about a month. Older, higher payed people will be targeted, along with a token younger person or two to make it look like it isn't targeted. We know their patterns

@OP Unfortunately. It's tacky that they continue to gloat about acquiring companies at the same time as their laying off good people.
