Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Denials:

What they don’t tell the providers who use their products - is they escalate as much as they can for medical review due to their escalation list and even if it meets IQ criteria - well we know what happens than. InterQual Auth Accelerator pairs Optum’s InterQual clinical criteria with AI to digitize payer rules, extract relevant clinical information from provider records and bring it to human reviewers. Most payers using the accelerator are starting with an augmented workflow, where AI organizes and presents information but a human reviewer still makes the determination, rather than fully automated approvals.

“We do not and will not automate denials,” Dr. Kontor said. “This is only accelerating reviews and automating approvals.”

@OP it should be illegal a conflict of interest for the insurance company to own the company that sets the criteria for medical necessity reviews. They can tweak it to influence outcomes especially denials .

How would you feel if car insurance denied your accident claims. There’s a lot of people that pay insurance and don’t use it because they are healthy. Insurance companies have become too greedy especially this one and turning down claims. That’s a big part of the reason you are losing customers along with being executive heavy at too many assistant directors and above. Assistant directors are a waste of an employee.

If they denied no claims none of us would have jobs.

We won’t have jobs anyways with the blockheads putting AI everywhere without safeguards. 24 months and “100X AI” will be as damning a statement as “Enron accounting” or “Tobacco advertising.”

The bozos in charge will ransack the company for their own treasure and leave as Congress, state AGs, and private plaintiffs get endless 8 figure+ awards.

The only way we make money is arming both sides: AI tools for Providers and Payers fighting each other.

The system will eat itself and we will lose.
